Sharon Porter

Obituary of Sharon Mae Porter

February 13, 1948 – Calgary, Alberta

July 11, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Sharon Porter, the beloved wife of Robert Porter, passed away on July 11, 2024, at the age of 76. She was a loving mother to her children, Corinne Porter, Stacey Clark, and Nicole Simmons (Chris), and a proud grandmother to her five grandchildren, Kody Porter, Courtney Porter, Wyatt Clark, Abigail Clark, and Alyssa Clark, as well as her great-granddaughter Adalynn Porter. She is predeceased by her parents, Harry and Minona Tschritter, brother, Leroy, and sister, Eileen. She is survived by her siblings Marjorie, Audrey, Yvonne, Kenneth, Rosalind, and James.

Sharon was born in Calgary, AB, on February 13, 1948, but grew up in Rockyford, AB, and later moved to Grande Prairie, AB, where she attended Sexsmith High School, obtaining her high school diploma. After high school, Sharon returned to Calgary, AB, where she met the love of her life, Bob. Not long after they started dating, the two lovebirds were married in Calgary, AB, on November 23, 1968. They had many adventures together, camping with friends and family. Once they had their three beautiful daughters, Sharon and Bob continued the adventures with their children, camping and travelling to places such as visiting family in Ontario or having fun in Disney World. They continued this tradition with their grandchildren. There were many a summer where Sharon could be seen suntanning on the beach with a beer in hand, watching as Bob taught his children (and everyone else’s) how to waterski. She loved to see the looks on her children’s faces when they finally got up on water skis. Sharon was always very supportive of her family. She came to every soccer and baseball game that her daughters played in. She sat proudly watching her girls walk across the stage when they graduated.

Along with being dedicated to her family, Sharon was dedicated to helping to provide for her family. She worked for 36 years as an administrator for various companies, such as AGT and Computershare, before retiring at the age of 65. She had many favourite hobbies and activities, such as playing cards and board games, solving sudoku, reading, gardening, baking, and crocheting. Sharon loved having visitors to her home. She would say that her door was always open and coffee on. She loved having a full table for family dinners. The more people, the better. Sharon was dedicated to her family and always willing to lend a helping hand.

Some of Sharon's proudest moments were the births of her children, grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, the graduations and weddings of her children, and learning how to swim. She had a passion for spending time with her loved ones, traveling, snowmobiling, and going on motorcycle rides with her husband. She enjoyed the simple things in life, like watching comedies, dancing, and, of course, suntanning with a cold beer in hand. She will be remembered for her infectious laughter, kind heart, and adventurous spirit.

Sharon will be most remembered for her zest for life and her unwavering love for her family. May she rest in peace, knowing she was cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all those who supported and cared for Sharon throughout her life.
