Obituary of Bonnie Susan Scott

May 3, 1949 – Edmonton, Alberta

July 10, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Bonnie Scott (nee MacGregor), beloved wife of the late Lorne Scott, of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children, on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the age of 75 years.

Bonnie was born in Edmonton in 1949, where she grew up in “The Flats”. She lived there until the age of 21, when she married Barrie Smith and moved to Calgary, where their son, Ryan Smith, was born.

Bonnie met Lorne while working at the legal firm of Beaumont Proctor, where she did paralegal work for several of the partners. Sparks flew, igniting a deep romance and a love affair that lasted almost 50 years. Their daughter, Sarah, was born in 1978.

Bonnie was devoted to her family. Gatherings with family, friends, and sports dominated the next phase of her life. She was a loyal and lifelong fan of the Edmonton Eskimos. A formidable tennis player and competitive runner, Bonnie participated in many marathons, including the Kananaskis 100 km marathon. She was a fierce athlete with a very competitive edge. As an active member of the Glencoe Club in Calgary, she served on various committees, eventually securing a position on the board for many years. She was elected President of the Glencoe Club from 2000 to 2001.

She will be most remembered for her sometimes jaw-dropping sense of humour, her competitive and fun-loving spirit, and her unconditional love of her friends and family. She was a great and compassionate leader.

Bonnie will be truly missed by everyone she knew in Calgary, Edmonton, Scottsdale, AZ, and Puerto Vallarta, where Bonnie and Lorne spent many winters and made many friends.

Bonnie is survived by her only daughter, Sarah Scott (Jeff Pashelka) of Calgary, stepdaughter, Rachael Bergen (Aaron) of Calgary, stepson, Sean Scott (Lisa) of Calgary, and her five grandchildren, Chase Lipinski, Anna Bergen, Anders Bergen, and Hannah Taylor, all of Calgary, and Effie Smith of Edmonton, AB.

Bonnie is also survived by her sister, Gail Kureluk (John) of Calgary, nephew, Trevor Otto of Toronto, ON, and niece, Caitlin MacGregor (Vasco Curto) of Vancouver, BC, as well as numerous cousins and friends.

Bonnie was predeceased by her loving husband, Lorne, her brother, Bruce MacGregor, her mother, June MacGregor, and her son, Ryan Smith.
