Obituary of Catherine Dalman

February 9, 1940 – Kinistino, Saskatchewan

July 12, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Catherine “Cathy” Dalman of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024, at the age of 84 years.

Cathy was born in Kinistino, SK, on February 9, 1940. She was the oldest of four daughters. They lived on the farm until moving to town when she was older. After graduating high school, she moved to Saskatoon to pursue her passion for nursing.

Cathy attended Saskatoon City Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in the Class of 1961. Soon after, she moved to Calgary, AB, to begin her career. She started her journey at the Calgary General Hospital and worked there for over a decade. During this time, she married Bill Dalman and had two sons, Scott (1964) and Steven (1969). In the late 1970s, she branched into the field of Occupational Health Nursing and worked for Gulf Canada Resources, and later Pan Canadian Resources. She enjoyed going out to the field offices for training and visiting the staff.

After a career that spanned over 30 years, she retired in 1995. She reconnected with her old high school boyfriend, Joseph Rouault, and moved to Victoria, BC. Though she enjoyed being on the island, she convinced Joe to move back to Alberta so she could be closer to friends and family in 2002. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, visiting, babysitting, attending Highland dance competitions, hockey and baseball games, school concerts, and graduations, she was there for all of it.

Cathy and Joe enjoyed hosting the family for dinners where there was lots of love and laughs at their acreage outside Cochrane. She loved baking and cooking for both family and friends.

Cathy was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2017 and dealt with it as she had her whole life, with grace and dignity. She passed away peacefully knowing she was loved.

Cathy accomplished much throughout her life and was particularly proud of her two sons and three grandchildren. She was also proud of her nursing career and her time at the Saskatoon City Hospital. She loved attending nursing reunions and reconnecting with old friends. Cathy also loved visiting Kinistino. She kept in touch with family and friends through Christmas cards, letters, or over a cup of tea. She enjoyed dancing and going for walks; good luck trying to keep up with her. She loved being outside, gardening in the immaculate yard that she built with Joe.

Cathy is survived by her two sons and one daughter-in-law, Steve Dalman (Sooke, BC), and Scott and Tracey Dalman (Calgary, AB); three grandchildren, Ben (Los Angeles, CA), Sarah (Vancouver, BC) and Caelan (Calgary, AB).

Cathy is also survived by her two sisters and one brother-in-law, Debbie Haugen (Calgary, AB), and Joy and Ed Kokoski (Fredericton, NB); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Cathy was predeceased by Bill and Joseph, her parents Henry and Thelma Haugen (Booth), her sister and brother-in-law Marlyn and Walter Kaminski, and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Allen and Bev Dalman.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Brentwood Care Centre for their compassion and considerate care over the past two years.
