Obituary of Joginder Singh Sambhi

July 13, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

Joginder Sambhi, beloved husband of Narinder Sambhi, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the age of 87 years. 

Joginder Sambhi was born in Punjab, India, on September 16, 1936, to Naseeb Kaur and Ajit Singh. He was the second oldest of six children and he is survived with much love and adoration by his daughter Kiran Sambhi and wife Narinder Sambhi.

Joginder worked as a businessman in India before moving to Canada on July 1, 1974 - marking 50 years July 2024. He first immigrated to BC, and was transferred to Calgary 2 years later in 1976. In Canada, he worked for one company his whole life - Sandman Inn Hotels. He took pride in the work he did and was known for his expertise as a Journeyman Carpenter. He was passionate about serving the community and was always willing to offer advice, guide friends and lend a helping hand to anyone in need. 

Joginder was extremely talented and passionate about wood working and was always looking for ways to share that love and passion wherever he could. He was very humbled to have been able to volunteer his time to help construct the Calgary Christian Center. Thereafter, in August 1976 when construction commenced on the Sikh Society Gurdwara, Joginder took pride in volunteering his time daily after work to help construct all the millwork as well as the ceiling of the Sikh Society Gurdwara, which stands in its original form till today.

Joginder accomplished a lot in his life and was very kind, independent, outspoken, and extremely hardworking.  

He touched a lot of lives along the way and was an amazing husband and father till his very last breath.

He will forever be missed and will continue to live in our hearts forever. 

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Calgary Crematorium, 3219 – 4th Street NW, Calgary, AB, within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 10 a.m.

Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr Sambhi’s service streamed live (see link below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
