Robert was born in Calgary, AB, on July 9, 1939. He attended Western Canada High School and Mount Royal College and later graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree.
Robert lived a very active lifestyle and was involved with various sports and interests, which included downhill and cross-country skiing, water skiing, golf, horseback riding and equitation, hunting, football, sky diving, rafting, boating, car rallies, antique and classic cars, and dancing. Throughout his life, Robert won many trophies for snowmobile and downhill ski racing, as well as sky diving. He also received trophies for his antique and classic Cars. He was most proud of his trophy for Western Canada Junior Equitation Champion. As a boy, and growing up, Robert’s family were very involved with horses, embracing the Western Lifestyle; and were for many years actively Involved with the Calgary Stampede and various horse shows with the Alberta Light Horse Association.
Robert and Cynthia married in 1979, and together they raised Wesley and Jennifer.
Robert had many memorable vacations with his family. One that stood out was when he won a trip to San Diego, from the CFCN Radio Station’s “Woody’s Weather Word”. Another was taking the family to Hawaii in 2001 after both Wesley and Jennifer had graduated from high school.
Robert was truly one of a kind. He will be remembered for his many interesting stories and his boisterous carrying voice. But make no mistake, he would be among the first, if not the first to lend a helping hand when someone was in need. As his mother once described him, “he’s a bit rough around the edges, but inside he’s a marshmallow.
Robert will be dearly missed by his family. A Celebration of Robert’s Life will be held at a later date. Cremation has already taken place.
