Obituary of Joan Pamela Schorning
March 19, 1938 – Peace River, Alberta
July 19, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Joan Schorning (nee Hurlburt), beloved wife of Fred Schorning, of Calgary, AB, went on to eternal life on Friday, July 19, 2024, at the age of 86 years.
Joan was born on March 19, 1938, in Peace River, AB. Her early life included spending time on the family farm in Red Deer, AB. This upbringing fostered her deep love for birds, animals, and nature.
Joan worked in the oil and gas industry, and then changed her career path, working as a legal secretary. An avid reader, she also enjoyed curling, hiking, and playing the piano. Always a great storyteller, she brought to life the family history and interesting tales of time spent with her childhood friends.
Joan was the daughter of two homesteaders, Arthur and Lucinda, who braved a life up North. She was blessed to have grown up with a brother, Don, with whom she shared many memories growing up in Peace River, Trail, and Red Deer.
She will be missed by her daughters, granddaughters, nieces, nephews, cousins, and her extended family in Red Deer, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia.
Joan’s wishes did not include a memorial service.
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: Marvellous are thy works; And that my soul knoweth right well.
Psalm 139:14
