Obituary of Reinhold Valentine Bauer

February 14, 1942 – Leader, Saskatchewan

July 20, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Reinhold “Reinnie” Bauer of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the age of 82 years.

Reinnie was born in Leader, SK, on February 14, 1942, and was the youngest of seven children. His father was a CPR section foreman, and Reinnie spent most of his childhood in Carbon, AB, near Drumheller. He often reminisced fondly of his formative years playing basketball, hockey, and hunting pheasant with his dog, Nero.

After graduating high school in 1960, Reinnie moved to Calgary, where he worked for Woodward’s advertising department at Chinook Center. While at Woodward’s, Reinnie met the love of his life, Lorraine, and they were married on July 4, 1964. Soon after, Reinnie joined a boutique pre-press printing shop, Duffoto Process, and became a manager and co-owner over a 40-year graphic arts career.

An avid sports fan, Reinnie touched many lives as a coach and organizer for lacrosse and hockey. He poured himself into this passion, and he was proud of his accomplishments working with the Southwest Athletic Association and the Mac's Major Midget Hockey Tournament, which both grew exponentially during his tenure. A longtime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Calgary, Reinnie was honoured to chair the committee that built a new facility for what is now Emmanuel Community Church. In retirement, Reinnie and Lorraine were excited to become snowbirds in Mesa, Arizona, where they enjoyed ten wonderful winters in the desert, making many new friends.

A devoted family man, Reinnie’s pride and joy were his two sons, his daughter-in-law, and his three granddaughters. He also found great delight in attending activities for his nieces and nephews, excited to watch them flourish and thrive. Two weeks before his passing, Reinnie and Lorraine were blessed to celebrate 60 years of marriage, cementing a legacy of family and love.

Besides his loving wife, Lorraine, Reinnie is survived by his sons, Darrin (Jennifer) of Calgary and Travis of Los Angeles, CA; and his three grandchildren, Natalie, Megan, and Sophia, of Calgary. Reinhold is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Pat of Edmonton, AB, Marion of Calgary, and Lou of Leduc, AB.

Reinnie was predeceased by his parents, Elisabeth and John Bauer; his brothers, John, Art, Al, Will, and Harvey Bauer, his sister, Min, brother-in-law, John Omelchenko, and sisters-in-law, May and Betty Bauer.
