Obituary of Lorrie Raymond

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mom, Lorrie Madelyn Raymond (nee Courtney). After an almost eight-year-long and hard battle with metastatic breast cancer, she passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2024, with her family by her side at the young age of 67 years.

While our hearts mourn the loss, we take comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering. Stubborn to the end, she showed us how to be strong and fight.

Lorrie leaves behind her children, Shannon (Cody), Mark (Analori), and Nikki; as well as her most favorite people, her grandchildren, Hanna, Ethan, Marshall, and Roarke. They enjoyed playing cards together and they affectionately called her Granny.

Lorrie is also survived by her siblings, Kathy (Reg), David, Leigh-Ann (Paul), Teresa, and Joyce (Terry); her many nephews, nieces, and great-nieces and nephews; and her very special extended family, Eileen and Garith; all of whom she loved and touched deeply.

Lorrie was predeceased by her dad William “Bill”, her brothers, William “Billy”, James “Jimmy”, and Donald “Donny”; and most recently, this past September, her mom Marion.

Born in Hanna, AB, mom was the fifth of nine children born to Bill and Marion Courtney. She grew up on a family farm just south of Delia and has always been a country girl at heart. Mom really loved Christmas. It was the one thing she looked forward to every year, and she always worked hard to make it special for us kids. She was a voracious reader, always with a quick-wit and a great sense of humour.

A Celebration of Lorrie’s Life will be held at Copperfield Community Centre (6 Copperstone Way SE, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.

In honor of her final wishes, she will be buried in her blue jeans in the family plot at the Delia Cemetery. The interment will be a private family service.
