Obituary of Corey Steven Petr

May 17, 1977 – Winnipeg, Manitoba

July 20, 2024 – Kamloops, British Columbia

Corey Petr, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the age of 47 years along with his beloved son, Erik Petr, age 10 years.

Corey was born in Winnipeg, MB, on May 17, 1977. He moved to Calgary, AB, in the same year.

Corey graduated from Springbank High School and started his electrical training at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in 1996. After his training, he became a journeyman electrician and obtained his Master Electrician’s Degree in 2006. He worked as an electrician and project manager with various companies over the course of his career, including Canem and Solaris Electric. Corey also operated his own electrical business, Rowik Ltd. He recently started a new position teaching in the electrical program at SAIT.

Corey enjoyed fishing, biking, hunting, and spending time with his boys Erik and Rowen. He loved playing guitar and photography. Corey enjoyed travelling all over Europe including the Czech Republic with his father and visiting family on Vancouver Island. Corey’s faith guided him through difficult times. Some of Corey’s happiest memories were playing with Erik and Rowen, spending time with family, especially at his parents’ acreage, fishing with his brothers and father, and hunting with friends.

He will be most remembered for his big heart, kindness, patience, and staying cool under pressure.

Corey is survived by his son, Rowen Petr, age eight, and Rowen’s mother, Heather Cody, in Calgary, AB. He is also survived by his parents, Dennis and Margaret Petr, in Springbank, AB; brother Richard Petr, sister-in-law Melinda Foran, niece Grace, and nephew Henry in Calgary, AB; brother Trevor Petr, sister-in-law Lisa Petr, and nieces, Renee and Chelsey in Comox, BC; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of Corey’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, August 2, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.

Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Petr’s service streamed live (see link below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
