Obituary of Bette Donaldson
May 17, 1954 – Montreal, Quebec
August 16, 2024 – Airdrie, Alberta
Bette Giselle Donaldson passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. She leaves behind her children, Ryan (Olivia), Tyler (Nissa), and Brenna (Carl); and her grandchildren, Mackenzie, Kailey, Avery, and Zelda.
Born in Montreal, QC, in 1954, Bette was a free spirit who left an unforgettable impact on everyone she met. She stayed true to herself and always spoke her mind. Often unfiltered, sometimes shocking, it was rare to spend time with Bette and not know exactly how she felt about something. Bette didn’t conform to what others expected of her. She went to school concerts and Metallica concerts. She chaperoned school field trips and got tattoos as a mom in the 1990s. Bette lived by her own rules, and her fiery determination stayed with her until the end, as she valiantly fought COPD for years with a spirit that always outsized her small frame.
Bette was incredibly grateful to those friends who loved and helped her as she battled her illness. To Sharon Fitger, who sadly left this world first and was surely waiting for Bette to join her. To Lisa and Kristie Landry, who provided many days and nights of love, laughter, and compassion and were with her as she said goodbye. To all who offered words of support, visits, or kind messages. It was hard for her to express it sometimes, but all of you meant the world to her.
Bette will forever be remembered by everyone who knew her. Her energy has returned to the universe, but in many moments big and small for the rest of our own lives, we will hear her voice, see her exaggerated expressions, and feel her presence. After a long and difficult fight, her body is finally at rest and her spirit is free to soar. We who are still on earth will remember her with love, and we will smile as we feel a gentle kiss from her wings as she flutters past each of us from time to time.
