Obituary of Chuan-Chih Wu

Chuan-Chih Wu, beloved wife, mother, Amah (grandmother) and friend, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at the age of 73 years.

Chuan-Chih was born on October 10, 1950, in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and moved to Calgary in 1992. Dedicating her life to serving others, Chuan-Chih (also known to her friends as ‘Suki’) graduated from Yuh-Ing Junior College of Health Care and Management in Kaohsiung and served as a nurse for over two decades. She pursued volunteer work throughout her life, serving as the chapter representative of the Tzu-Chi Foundation. Believing one should serve the community, she organized volunteer work in soup kitchens (the Calgary Drop-In & Rehab Centre), provided entertainment to residents in various senior homes throughout the city, and raised money for local and international reliefs.

A lover of music and the visual arts, Chuan-Chih played the piano and charmed many with her beautiful voice. She expressed her artistic vision through different mediums including paper sculpting, Batik (wax) painting, and most notably, leather carving. One of her proudest moments was a solo exhibition of her leatherwork in her native Taiwan.

Chuan-Chih was a formidable cook who hosted large dinner parties. It was through food that she made many lifelong friends, and most importantly, expressed her love for anyone tasting her cuisine.

Chuan-Chih is survived by her daughter Marissa Feria (Marc Houde) of Calgary, Alberta, her son Roger Feria (Emily Westell), and her granddaughter Olive Feria of Ottawa, Ontario. Chuan-Chih is also survived by her sister and two brothers in Taiwan, as well as numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Chuan-Chih was predeceased by her husband Rogelio Gabatino Feria, and her parents, Wu-Hsu Kuei-Lan and Wu Ching-Tai.
