Doris Mae Grout, born in Olds, AB, on August 23, 1929, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the age of 94 years.

Doris was a successful businesswoman who worked alongside her beloved husband, Fred, in various ventures. Together, they traveled the world and enjoyed a wonderful life. Doris had many hobbies, including knitting, bird watching, gardening, sewing, embroidery, and baking.

After retiring, Doris discovered her passion for quilting which she pursued enthusiastically until the age of 92. Every Wednesday she would quilt with friends, a cherished weekly tradition. Doris won numerous ribbons for her work and even donated quilts to raise funds for sick children.

Throughout her life, Doris helped others. She was an active member of Daughters of the Nile, raising funds for children’s hospitals into her eighties. Along with her dear friend, Darlene Miller, she designed a doll named Sara, used by healthcare providers to explain medical procedures to sick children. At 93, Doris made one last donation of her hand-knitted toques and mittens to the homeless.

Doris was a loving, kind, and generous supporter of her family. She will always be in our hearts and never forgotten.
