Condolences
I remember spending holidays with my family at the Kitchens home and playing pool downstairs with Morgan and the kids my age, including my brother. Morgan would tease me because I wasn’t very good at pool but would teach me how to play. He was such a kind soul who took everyone under his wing. Once, we were in Springbank and Morgan and Katie decided to take my brother and I on a walk through a back trail in the field and through a forrest where we found an abandoned tree house. I remember bits and pieces of my time with Mack and each time brings warmth to my heart. I’m thinking about his family and friends during this time of grieving. Even if he and I weren’t very close, this is one of the hardest deaths I’ve ever experienced. I’ll miss you Mack.
Sending sincere condolences from the U.K. This young man lived his life to the fullest, and with honour. Hopefully, sometime in the future this will be of comfort , meanwhile we thank him for his service, stand easy...duty done. Per Mare, Per Terram x
Our thoughts are with Morgan's family, friends and colleagues. Although we never have met Morgan we heard a lot about him from his father Robert. It is such a tragic event and he was so young. He will be missed but not forgotten for his dedication to his community. We are sorry to have of his passing.
All my deepest condoleances to Morgan’s family, fire fighting team whom worked with him. Respect…
I offer my condolences to Morgan’s family and the RFB Unit Crew on this sad occasion. I spent 10 years as the camp boss at Rocky but retired before Morgan became part of the team. He sounds like a great guy and I would of enjoyed meeting him.

My deepest, most sincere condolences to all who had Morgan taken from your lives. I never had the pleasure, but feel I do know him, and know ones like him - Heroes. Morgan died saving my town, our park. Now, he'll be needed to send strength to all who miss him. You know he'll come through. Peace out Mr. Kitchen. Watch over the ones who love you ...
Morgan’s family: please know that even though most Canadians did not know your son/brother/friend, I can guarantee he is mourned by many because he gave his life for us. We will think of him when we think of Jasper.
Thank you for fighting for us. ❤️ Sending our deepest condolences to your family, friends and fellow firefighters. With love, from Jasper.
Mack was a gem, loud, confident and unapologetic and so much fun to work with his friends in the highlanders will miss him
As a mother of twins both in Wildfire I can not begin to imagine your loss, grief and heartache.
Brendan ( in the Yukon) and MacKenzie (in Peace River) also went to school with Morgan at St. Mary's.
Both send their deepest and heartfelt condolences as the brother and sisterhood of Wildfire remember a young man following his passion.
May God Bless each of you as you treasure the memories of Morgan

Joni, Rob and both the Kitchen/Avram clans:
I was deeply moved to see Morgan had lost his life while serving the community in such a heroic way. My thoughts and heart go out to you all at this devastating time. I recall holding a very young Morgan on my lap at the cottage years ago-this memory and many others connect me to your family. Morgan’s light will remain a part of each of you- forever. Thinking about you and sending my love-Carolyn McKay
My son Taylor, a fellow wildland firefighter and his girlfriend, Marta, who was on the Rocky Unit with him spoke of what a wonderful, kind soul he was. He will be deeply missed by them. From what they told me, he came and left a lasting impression on all those he touched. His light burned bright for all to see and left a lasting mark on every one's heart to hold on to.
Condolences to the family.
I taught Mack Outdoor Ed for many years at Westmount and have some great memories of having him on backcountry trips, his history lessons, teaching me songs on guitar, running through his comedy routines and I even have a scar on my side from him and I colliding and landing on top of each other during a game of bike rodeo. I was devastated to hear of Morgan's passing while fighting to help protect other people's homes and am so sorry for your loss. He was a real highlight of a student and friend that I always enjoyed having in class as well as just hanging out in my room at lunch, he was the type of character that could simultaneously drive you up the wall while making you laugh your ass off the whole time and I'm grateful for knowing him and getting to go on many great trips with him.

Rob and Joni and your families - I was and am so saddened to read of Morgan's death - he sounds like a wonderful individual (not surprising to me, given his parentage). Although I have not seen you two for many years, having moved to Edmonton in 1996, nor had the privilege of knowing him, I immediately thought of you when the name of the firefighter was released. And tragically he turned out be your son. I know there will be great support around you and yours at this very difficult time. Take care of yourselves.
Sincerely and with my condolences,
Jim Leitch
My heart is broken. To Morgan’s family, friends, firefighter and military colleagues, I send my deepest sympathy. It was a Buddhist monk who said “We need to begin to see things for what they truly are. After all, if we don’t see—we can’t have vision”. By all accounts, Morgan was a character larger than life. He had vision. Private Kitchen of the Calgary Highlanders, I salute you. Master Warrant Officer (Retired) Gordon Usipiuk, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. Victoria, BC.
Rob and Joni: We are so very sorry for your loss, and can’t imagine the pain of losing a child. As your former neighbour in Rosedale, we remember babysitting a one year old while you had a rare night out (Morgan was no problem at all!). Ron remembers doing a photo shoot of Morgan and Joni for a course he was taking. Our sincere condolences. Ron and Sue
Our heartfelt and deepest sympathy to you all. Seems like only yesterday the kids were all playing together at Rosedale.
My sincere condolences on the loss of your Morgan. He gave his life to save others. My dad was a firefighter in Sydney Mines Cape Breton. His name is on the Canadian Memorial wall in Ottawa for fallen firefighters.
My late brother George was a firefighter too. I pray you find peace in the beautiful memories you created together as a family. Morgan will live on in your hearts. God bless
