Obituary of Robert Gordon Sharpe

June 26, 1942 - Truro, Nova Scotia

August 6, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

Robert Gordon Sharpe, beloved husband of Maggie Sharpe (nee Wade), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at the age of 82 years with loving family beside him.

He was born in Truro, NS, on June 26, 1942. Robert enjoyed his career in plant research in Ottawa. His love of flowers, trees, and horticulture never diminished; even after retirement, he shared his extensive knowledge to help others.

Throughout his life, Robert was a passionate philatelist (stamp collector) who worked meticulously and lovingly on his collection. Despite his absorbing career and dedication to his stamps, his greatest happiness came from spending time with Maggie. Together, they enjoyed dancing, music, playing games, and planning special occasions for family and friends. Robert's gentle smile and quiet demeanor went hand in hand with his joy for life, and even towards the end of his time here with us, he continued to play cards with his family, winning with a good-natured grin.

Robert is survived by his wife Maggie Sharpe, his twin brother William Albert and his wife Jeanette (Stephenson) of Victoria, Conception Bay, NL, his two stepdaughters, Jane Ross, (Jeremy) and Barbara Heck of Calgary, AB; and four step-grandchildren, Aaron, Sarah, Stephanie, and Jessica.

Robert is predeceased by his parents, William and Phyllis (Thompson); and his stepson Scott Brayman.

He spent his last years at Bethany Riverview, and we are so immensely grateful for the kindness and accommodating patience that we constantly witnessed there.
