Condolences
I lived in Calgary and went to school with Angie, she would know me as Tracey Kasdorf and my married name now is Tracey Petts, I was on the show once. However, I remember going to Angie's house for sleepovers when I was a kid, and had a lot of fun. I now live in Brantford, ON. and was just today a memory popped in my head about Angie and then I found her dad's obituary and had to remark here!
My condolences to the family!
I would like to share my condolences with The Barge family, and thank you so much for sharing your husband, father, grandfather with the city of Calgary! He meant a lot to the city and he will be greatly missed.
Thank you Buckshot for being a part of my childhood, I still remember watching The Buckshot Show and Benny the Bear. Loved Benny the Bear and all the songs and stories and skits…..I think it was called Creatures Beyond. 16 Chickens and a Tambourine is still one of my favourites.
My sister happened to be on the show I think three times and I remember one time Buckshot asked the kids if they knew how long the show had been on tv. All these five and six year olds said 5 years, 7 years. My sister sat up and he asked her how long and she says “23 years”. And Buckshot was shocked and he said how did she know that and she just said “because you said so last week”.
He was a great man!

If ever I felt a need to say thanks for great memories of my childhood in the 70s, it would be to Buckshot (aka Ron Barge) and Benny aka Jim Lewis. Every day at noon I would come home for lunch and to watch them on tv it became such a daily experience during my elementary school years and now when I learned of his passing in August, I felt like a good friend left me, and although I'm going through my own medical issues at the moment I won't be able to attend the service but I will be watching from the live stream on Friday so I can say goodbye to my friend and thanks for all you did, and to his family, I say thanks for sharing him with all us now adults in Calgary who started out as kids at heart and know that at least in southern Alberta he definitely left his mark on Calgary and won't be forgotten..... Thanks Buckshot!
Ron Barge has been a constant supporter for anything happening in Glenbrook Community. As a long time home owner in the community, Ron was always more than willing to help out with anything happening in Glenbrook. We will truly miss his smile and laughter he brought to all our events.
Remembering our dear colleaque and friend when,as a comeraman,he kept everyone in stitches and later, for many years continued the fun since our sets were on opposite sides of the studio we shared at CFCN.He was a very talented musician but he couldn't resist the occasion to hammer out some off key clunkers on his old piano to make us all laugh.Ron was exactly the same warm and funny person away from the station as he was on the air.We learned that when we built a cabin in Invermere,a few hundred yards from his and over the subsequent summers got to know the whole wonderful Barge family. Our love to all and may his memory be a blessing.

Although I graduated from high school around the time the Buckshot Show came to be, I never missed a noon break to watch the show whenever and wherever possible. I met Mr. Barge in 1962 or 1963 at CFCN. He was a cameraman/tv director covering the Canadian Federal Election. He was funny, witty and very engaged. A perfect character to morph into Buckshot. He and Benny were always my highlight of the Calgary Stampede Parade and even his attendance last year brought our whole section of bleachers to a teary-eyed standing ovation. As a lifelong Calgarian, Buckshot will always be one of the City’s memorable symbols.
School. "12:00 NOON'. "BUCK SHOT SHOW". Back to school. 1970s kids reflections. Ron was a very special man. He was in every Calgary child's life. He will be missed. Thank you Ron. The Gregor Family.
Ron was a constant in Torrington, and during my childhood was an icon. He was our Sports Day entertainment, with a full house every saturday of kids and adults always. In 2016, he was the parade marshal and our special guest. Hundreds of kids, now adults, dropped decades! I appreciated him remembering my father for being so influential, and his favorable comments and encourgements for asking him.
He was a family friend, and an inspiration to all he knew.
Rest in peace Ron, you will truly be remembered by all.
Blessings to your wife and family.
I don't even know where to start....I didn't meet Ron Buckshot Barge during those days, growing up in Edmonton, I had never heard of this show. I was brought into the family from his daughters Angie and Cindy. Ron and Shirley were larger than life to me, they quickly became Poppa and Momma Barge to me. We were welcomed and brought into the love of this family without hesitation ...we went to family events, many of them, bar b q's when we came to town. Knowing Ron and Shirley and the entire Barge family, I quickly learned were Angie and Cindy got the gigantic hearts filled with love from. To learn and see what a star Ron was was no surprise...he was larger than life. My kids Degas and Brianna thought of them as grandparents. The hugs were amazing and so full of love. I can keep rambling, I have so many wonderful memories in my heart where I will treasure them. So much love to you Momma Barge, Angie, Cindy, Brenda and Ken ....my heart is with you all. ~~Shelley~~
Oh man, where to start, there are not many who can say I'm a life long Calgarian and everyday at noon I would ride my bike home just to watch the show so if you were a kid in the 70s you knew who Buckshot was. Even when my parents would want to go visit my sister in Fernie BC the show would be shown there since CFCN transmitting there as well, so he was a huge part of my life as a kid so when I was returning to Calgary after a work trip, I started to think of him and why I did I don't know but I drove past where I grew up and he just popped into my head. When I got home I turned on the news and that was when I found out of his passing, he meant so much to me and my childhood friends so much so I started to tear up. I hope something will be done to show your family just how much he meant to kids who grew up watching him, he gave so much of himself on tv for 30 years along with friend who did the voices of the puppets on the show (I'm sorry I can't remember his name off hand due to dementia early stages) just to show you how much he meant to all that saw his show so I say I'm sending my condolences to the family of Ron Buckshot Barge and his family just to say thanks for sharing him with all of us in Calgary Alberta and into BC as well. He won't be forgotten. RIP Buckshot.
On behalf of the Koch family, our sincerest condolences go to the Barge family on the passing of Ron. He was a terrific guy and a good friend of my Dad, Dan Koch, and the Koch family (Sharon, Steve, Cheryl and Rob). Dad and Ron co-owned a golf equipment manufacturing company here in Calgary with another terrific guy named George Magga. I'm not sure if they made any money but they had fun running it. Another fun memory I have of Ron is when a group of us went to Disneyland in 1997 to celebrate the anniversary of the Buckshot show (I believe it was the 30th anniversary). My brother, sister and I grew up watching the Buckshot show at noon in the 1970's and have very fond memories of it. Thank you Ron for all the enjoyment and friendship you had with so many of us during your life. You will be sadly missed.
Sincerely,
Rob Koch
As one who is almost 61, and ran into Ron regularly, in my Youth and as an adult, we would run home to watch it at lunch time, Buck Shot and friends was one of the greatest influences in my life. Always a positive individual...

The man the myth the legend as someone who is currently 53 years old I grew up watching him and I had a chance to meet him in person very friendly and easygoing and personable in person my deepest condolences and sympathies to his family at CFCN as well
My sincere condolences to the family of Ron Barge and to all the fans of “Buck Shot” who are going to miss him dearly.
I was privileged to share the stage with my childhood television icon. Watching 'The Buck Shot Show' daily and meeting him annually at the Calgary Stampede from a young age to adulthood inspired me. My ambition was to become a skilled puppeteer. When Buck Shot and Benny visited the Tsuut'ina Nation, opening their show was a highlight of my career. He commended me, saying, 'Keep up the good work, it's a lot of fun.'
Growing up a few hundred yards away from the Barges and being the "exact" same age as Ken, I saw a lot of Ron in the 70's. He was our manager in my first year of hockey and even got our team on the Buckshot Show twice that season. I crossed paths with him again in the 90's and early 2000's when he was selling golf clubs to my course. And the last 20 years I have seen him at many hockey games and always said hi. In all of that history he was the exact same man with his genuine personality as a caring and kind person. He had a well lived great life and will always be in my thoughts (especially if the subject of 16 Chickens and a Tambourine comes up...haha). Ken, Angie, Brenda and Cindy, please accept my sincerest condolences on your father's passing as he will be missed. RIP Ron!!
My two experiences with Ron as Buckshot were professional in nature. As a magician's assistant I was privileged to be part of a segment for his show in the early 90's as "the Zig Zag Lady", where his trademark warmth and kindness was his way of working every minute we were there. We also crossed paths when we shared a stage at the Drumheller Trade Show. That relatively small audience welcomed him like a rock star at the Saddledome! By chance we chose the same restaurant afterward, where he and Jim invited us to sit with them. We chatted and laughed like old friends! The ripple effect of the fun and kindness he so willingly shared is surely beyond measure.
My first recollection of Ron was in the early 1960's when he entertained my kids and others at a military kids Christmas party at Sarcee Barracks. Since those days I have had the opportunity to experience Ron's love of music at various venues. He will be missed! My condolences to Shirley and the Barge family.
Anyone who grew up in Calgary through the 60s to the 80s knew Buckshot. I had the pleasure to meet him in person at a charily event a few years ago and have a photo of the two of us. I felt honoured to be in his presence because he meant so much to many young people growing up. A kind and humble man, a great role model and wonderful human all around. Whenever I think of Buckshot, I think of my childhood and a simpler, more innocent time. Thank you for the memories, the music, the fun and wonderment of childhood! Thank you to his family for sharing your precious dad/husband/grandpa with us. My condolences to you all and may you find comfort knowing how many people he made an impact on.
Ron was a friend of my Uncle Danny and I met Ron on the set of a movie filmed in Calgary at a studio in Currie Barracks at the time. He had all of us in stitches with his stories and jokes and he gave me a ride home. I watched him when I was a kid and meeting him in person and sharing a day is one of the highlights of my life as a Calgarian. He meant that much to us as kids that we ran home from school to see him and Benny at lunchtime on our TV.
When iwas a little girl i sat and watched him on tv then i dance on his shows once.i start working at the Foothills and could not belive i was working with his brother Gord and Sister inlaw JODY it was a great feeling i was always so happy to see him at events around Calgary and tried to snap i pic here and there but always so many fans around he will be greatly missed LOIS Marshall
