Obituary of Lorna Yvonne Margaret Hand
November 20, 1930 - Sundre, Alberta
August 14, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta
Lorna Hand of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the age of 93 years.
Born November 20, 1930, in Sundre, AB, on the family farm, she later moved to Calgary and met Doug. They then married in November 1951. Lorna and Doug became very involved in the Moose Lodge.
Mom worked at the Hudson’s Bay Company in downtown Calgary in the accounting office for ten years. She then decided to go back to university and received her BA in History in 1974 from the University of Calgary. She loved history, with Doug and herself travelling to many places throughout Europe, North America, and Australia.
Lorna and Doug owned a 1947 Desoto. They were active members of the Alberta Pioneer Auto Club and travelled together to many car rallies over the years.
Late in her life, she became an active member of the Kerby Centre in downtown Calgary. She loved participating in the singing classes she attended, among other activities.
We have many fond memories of family get-togethers. Mom’s door was always open to receive family and friends.
Lorna and Doug have five children, Tim (Anne), Susan (Lee), Steve (Nora), Kate (Mike), and Rob (Janice); and are also survived by nine grandchildren, Lorrie, Brian, Michael, Marie, Matthew, Alyssa, Justin, Miguel, and Nigel; seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Doug in March of 1999, and her four siblings, Pearl, Gladys, Joyce, and Garth.
A Gathering for relatives and friends will be held at Edgemont Community Association (33 Edgevalley Circle NW, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.
