Obituary of Takako Karakama

Takako Karakama of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the age of 73 years.
Takako was born in Sagamihara, Japan, on December 26, 1950. She immigrated to Canada in 1989 with her husband and two children, first moving to Richmond, BC, and then settling in Calgary, AB. She worked for many years helping run a tourism company that catered to Japanese tourists, which she and her husband established.
Takako enjoyed golfing, which she picked up in her 50s and went to practice when she could at the beginning, but quickly gained a passion for the sport after retirement. Takako was particularly proud of her accomplishments at the amateur golf tournaments. She also loved reading and solving Sudoku puzzles.
She will be most remembered for being a loving and caring mother and grandmother.
Takako is survived by her daughter Seiko, who resides in BC, son Keigo, daughter-in-law Asami, and grandchild Kaylee.
Takako is also survived by her three sisters, Kiyoko, Nobuko, and Kimie; her brothers-in-law, Toshio and Haruki; along with their children and grandchildren, all living in Japan.
Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Heritage, 1708, 16th Avenue N, across from the North Hill Shopping Centre, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mrs. Karakama’s service streamed live (see link below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
