Obituary of Roy William Young
March 22, 1933 – Corner Brook, Newfoundland
August 28, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Roy Young, beloved husband of Marlene Young, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the age of 91 years.
Roy was born in Newfoundland. He joined the army when he was seventeen and achieved the rank of Sergeant at a very young age. He served in the army in the Korean War (1950 – 1954). Roy and Marlene (nee McDaniel) have been together since 1968. Roy enjoyed travelling at every opportunity he could and was an avid outdoorsman. His greatest passion was his family and spending time with them. Roy will be remembered as the foundation of the family.
Besides his loving wife Marlene, Roy is survived by three daughters and a son, Traci Martin, Tina (Duane) Hart, Linda Pommerville, and Terry (Sandy) Pommerville; eight grandchildren, Celina Martin, Sammy Martin, Chris (Renee) Davis, Tim Davis, Jennifer (Nic) Damchuk, Tara Myny, Susanne (Rick) Boutillier, and David (Angel) Bruder; five great-grandchildren, Cason, MacKenzie, Tyler, Jacob, and Chloe; one sister Gloria Roe, two sisters-in-law, Odele Young and Sheila Young; also numerous nieces and nephews.
Roy was predeceased by his parents, Patricia and William Young; four brothers, Glyde, Oswald, Raymond (Jay), and Robert; and two sisters, Iris Jacob and Edna Carrol.
A private family gathering will be held.
