Obituary of Glenn Lorne Tibbles

June 2, 1951 – Montreal, Quebec

August 22, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

 

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Glenn Lorne Tibbles on Thursday, August 22, 2024, after a short battle with colon cancer.

 

Glenn was adored by his loving wife, Suzanne Devonshire Baker, his daughters, Alexandra (Trenton Latos), Jocelyne (Mark Johnson), and Paige; and his five grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother Eileen Tibbles, his sister Lynn Wanner, and his brother Gary Tibbles.

 

Born in Montreal on June 2, 1951, Glenn was educated in Quebec and Saskatchewan and graduated with a degree in Kinesiology from UBC. After teaching both high school and university, he was recruited to the airline industry in 1980 and eventually became Corporate Secretary of both Wardair and Canadian Airlines. In 1995, he was recruited as President and CEO of The Calgary Chamber of Commerce. In 1997, he was selected by the U.S. Embassy as one of two Canadian participants in the U.S. International Visitor Program. For the last 25 years of his career, Glenn was involved in human capital consulting, managing several national companies and ending his career as President of Cenera, Inc. Always involved in the Calgary community, he served on several boards, including the University of Calgary Board of Governors, the University of Calgary Senate and the Senate’s Executive Committee, Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, Lougheed House Conservation Society, Nickel Arts Museum, SAIT’s Chairman’s Circle, and The Calgary Golf and Country Club.

 

His warm and infectious smile will always be remembered. A private family service will be held at Christ Church, Elbow Park.
