Obituary of Kathleen Anne Megrath
September 9, 1965 – Toronto, Ontario
August 21, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Kathleen “Kathy” Megrath (nee Cox) of Calgary, AB, on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at the age of 58 years.
Kathy was born in Toronto, ON, and moved to Ottawa, ON, at a young age. She met Vance, the love of her life when they enrolled in the same program at Algonquin College. They quickly learned they were both in the wrong program and moved to other courses, but fate had set things in motion.
They were married in Ottawa on July 3, 1993. They lived in and around the Ottawa area until 1995, when they moved to Calgary, AB. Their professional paths took them to communities in Saskatchewan and British Columbia before they returned to Calgary.
Kathy graduated from the Accounting and Payroll Administration program at CDI College and enjoyed her work at various Brenda Strafford Foundation facilities, especially Wentworth Manor.
Kathy loved spending time at their summer trailer southeast of Calgary and participating in activities such as beanbag and bocce ball tournaments. She especially loved playing bingo and card games with fellow campers. She and Vance were in several bowling leagues over the years until Multiple Sclerosis forced her to find new activities. She took up tole painting, and many people benefitted from her artwork. She was an avid reader, and many afternoons, you could find her reading on the swing on the lawn or nestled in the glider rocking chair that Vance made her.
Besides her loving husband, Vance, Kathy is survived by her brother Ron Cox of Ottawa, ON, sister-in-law Vickie Megrath (Bill Doxsee), and mother-in-law Loretta Ebersole, all of Calgary, AB; nephew Andrew Furedy (Charlotte Thompson) of Ottawa, ON, and extended family and friends in Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia.
She will be greatly missed by longtime friends, Bev Craig (Russell) of Fitzroy Harbour, ON; and Karen O’Neill (Michael) of Calgary, AB; as well as many friends at the campsite.
Kathy was predeceased by her mother, Erna Cox (2009), father, Graham Cox (2010), and sister, Norma Jean.
A Celebration of Kathy's Life will be held at Oasis Grove RV and Golf Resort (Range Rd 254, Wheatland County, AB) during the 2025 summer camping season.
Kathy and Vance loved animals and they adopted and rescued many dogs and cats over the years. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Castleridge Veterinary Clinic (55 Castleridge Blvd. NE #126, Calgary, AB T3J 3J8). Telephone: (403)-280-1585, Email: cvc2@telus.net.
