Obituary of Kim Sedor
March 29, 1963 – Calgary, Alberta
August 26, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Delores “Kim” Sedor at the young age of 61 years after a twenty-month battle with ovarian cancer.
Kim, as she was known, passed on Monday, August 26, 2024, in the company of her family. She leaves behind the love of her life, Jim Ormshaw, daughter Brittany (Stephen) Weber, her son Bryan (Kristal) Locke, as well as her beloved 15-month-old granddaughter, Scarlett Weber, who was her sun, moon and stars.
Kim was born in Calgary, AB on March 29, 1963, to Elizabeth “Bessie” and Steve Sedor. She was the youngest daughter of ten including four sets of twins of which she was part of the last set.
She graduated from Western Canada High School and proceeded to attend hairdressing school where she got her Journeyman Red Seal Certificate. She became a mother at 24 and again at 29. After getting married in 1990 she became a stay-at-home mom until her kids were older. In 2001, after her divorce, she explored a few different career paths which led her to a long career in office administration.
In 2016, she met her partner Jim, and they enjoyed a beautiful eight-and-a-half years together. She had never been happier. They went travelling to many destinations including Toronto, Niagara Falls, San Diego, Phoenix, and Kelowna. They shared many date nights and loved watching “The Young and the Restless” together on Friday nights. Her last family vacation was in April 2024 when she and Jim went to Phoenix, AZ, joined by her daughter Brittany, son-in-law Stephen, and most importantly her young granddaughter Scarlett. She was so happy to have been a part of Scarlett’s first out-of-country vacation. She always said the one place she wanted to visit was Hawaii. Although she never made it in person, her family will honour her dream by taking her to Hawaii in the fall.
One of her favourite days of the week was Sunday because, during the summer months, there was always a family BBQ in the backyard. She often took art classes and enjoyed watercolour painting as well as a number of other crafts that came up through the years. She loved her flowers and hitting up garage sales on the weekend. Her love of cooking meant there were always big turkey dinners at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's.
Her favourite moments of her life were picking out her wedding dress with her mother and her first date with Jim. One of her proudest achievements was becoming a grandmother. She was also so proud of her son Bryan who followed his dreams and worked in a career he always wanted. She always said she was jealous of how he does whatever he wants without regret and lives free in all his decisions. She attended Brittany’s university graduation and wedding and was always proud of her independence.
Those who were close to her knew her favourite expressions were “It will only take you five minutes”, and “6 o’clock comes early”. She believed that everything happens for a reason. Her favourite word was “wow” even though it drove some crazy when she said it.
She will be most remembered for her witty attitude, her contagious laugh, and her ability to care for everyone and everything. She was also never late. She hated it when people were late.
She loved the word BELIEVE, and she loved butterflies. When you see a butterfly, it is her coming to check in.
Kim was predeceased by her parents, Elizabeth and Steve Sedor as well as her long-lost sister Carole Knight.
The family would like to thank Dr.Ghatage and the entire oncology team at the Foothills Hospital for doing everything they could to save Kim. You gave her twenty extra months and she got to meet her new granddaughter.
A big thank you to the nursing team on Unit 42 as well. Lovely, Oksana, Chelsea, Keiko, and Denise just to name a few. You guys did an amazing job helping Kim recover from surgery last year and on her final journey to Heaven.
Kim would also like to thank her sister Denise for everything she has done over the last year and a half for her.
