Ramji Gupta, cherished husband of Nirmala Gupta of Glen Oaks, NY, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at the age of 77 years in Calgary, AB.
Born in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India, on February 1, 1947, Ramji was the youngest of six siblings. His career began as a chef at the Taj Hotel in Mumbai, where he honed his culinary skills from 1977 to 1981. He then moved to London, where he worked for Noon Products from 1981 to 1985. In 1988, he relocated to Queens, NY, to join Shamiana Sweets, one of the premier sweet shops in the area.
Ramji married Nirmala Gupta in Uttar Pradesh in April 1975. Together, they raised four children: sons, Birendar and Jitendar, and daughters, Jyoti and Pooja. Ramji was also a devoted father-in-law to Sonu, Valerie, and Sunny. His family grew to include five beloved grandchildren, Diya, Ridhi, Sahdev, Om, and Veer, and he was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his sixth granddaughter.
A man of unwavering dedication, Ramji was known for his hard work and the generosity of his heart. His life was marked by a selfless commitment to his family, providing them with love, support, and joy. He never sought indulgence for himself but gave freely to ensure his family's well-being. His generosity extended beyond his immediate family, reaching out to friends and anyone in need with warmth and kindness.
Ramji's vibrant presence and boundless energy were a source of inspiration to those around him. He was admired for his dedication in all aspects of his life, from his culinary passion to his deep love for his wife, children, and grandchildren. He took great joy in his role as a grandfather, eagerly preparing for the arrival of his newest granddaughter.
In his free time, Ramji found joy in visiting the temple, cooking, spending time with his grandchildren, and indulging in his love for sweets. He had a fondness for chocolates and ice cream, often sneaking a treat when no one was watching. He maintained strong ties with his extended family in India, visiting regularly to offer support and cherish family connections.
In the Indian community of Queens, Ramji was revered as a respected and genuine individual, a pillar of strength for many immigrant families. His legacy of compassion, hard work, and integrity will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
