Suzanne Webster

Obituary of Suzanne Meta Webster

October 20, 1934 - Belyeas Cove, New Brunswick

August 23, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Suzanne Webster on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Rockyview Hospital in Calgary. Suzanne had a strong Christian faith, and we are comforted to know she is reunited in heaven with her husband of 66 years, Ronald Webster, who recently predeceased her.

Suzanne is survived by her children Brent (Deanne), Bruce (Ruth), and Cynthia; her grandchildren Brooke (Declan), Sierra (Michael), Marina (Adrian), Cohen, Sienna, Desmond, and Serena; her sisters, Loretta (Art) and Norma (Wayne) and brother, Norman (Marie); as well as other relatives and friends.

Suzanne was born in Belyeas Cove, NB, to Rupert and Edna Webster, where she enjoyed a happy childhood exploring the countryside and woods with her eight siblings (Suzanne was the middle child). Rupert ran a farm and store, and it was a busy household.

A strong student, Suzanne finished high school early and completed Teacher’s College in Fredericton while still a teenager. Along with her close teacher friends, Rita and Jackie, Suzanne answered an ad looking for teachers in Calgary and arrived to teach at Victoria Park School in 1955. The three friends had a great time exploring their new city and Suzanne dazzled her husband, Ronald, at a dance during those fun days. As part of the RCAF, Ron was sent to Cyprus shortly after they met, but the two exchanged numerous letters. They were married in 1958 at First Baptist Church. The couple moved to Fredericton while Ron pursued a Bachelor of Education degree. After a short stint near Ottawa, where Brent was born, the family settled in Calgary, where Bruce and Cynthia were born. Being far from her family in NB was difficult, but she was so pleased her sister, Loretta, also chose to settle in Calgary.

Suzanne loved being a mother and devoted her time to raising her children. She taught preschool for many years and was also interested in business, having tried her hand in direct sales, and then owned two small businesses. After retirement, the couple enjoyed trips all over the world, especially cruises, and spent many happy winters with friends in Apache Junction, AZ. She and Ron continued dancing weekly until dances were cancelled in 2020. She loved her church family at Richmond Hill Baptist and her many friends from Sierra’s West and from other parts of her life.
