August 26, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta
It is with deep sadness and profound grief that we announce the unexpected passing of beloved son and brother Alexander “Alex” Gregory Ross Forrest, on Monday, August 26, 2024, at the age of 33 years.
Alex was born in Calgary to parents, Jack Forrest and Shawn Palmer on April 23, 1991.
Alex was a rambunctious kid with blonde hair and blue eyes who enjoyed playing Nintendo games with friends, building with his Legos and K’nex, creating his own homemade movies, and dazzling others with a card trick. He enjoyed gymnastics, tennis, golf, and martial arts, training in karate and kendo. Always artistic, imaginative, and creative, he drew and painted from an early age. His memorable childhood trips included Disneyland, Legoland, the Royal Tyrrell Museum as he was an expert on dinosaurs, and Cedar Point Amusement Park as he was a roller coaster enthusiast. Interested in Egyptology, he had dreams of possibly becoming an archaeologist or a paleontologist when he grew up.
Alex graduated with two diplomas from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in 2012 and 2013, in Mechanical Design and Mechanical Engineering. He excelled and was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Alex also graduated in 2013 from Cape Breton University with a bachelor’s degree with honours in Manufacturing Engineering Technology.
Alex worked at Allan Forrest Sales, a company founded by his grandfather, since 2013 as a Technical Sales Engineer.
Alex was well known and liked throughout the industry and was a member of many different organizations and associations, including the Southern Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the Mechanical Contractor’s Association (MCA) of Alberta. In the past couple of years, Alex had taken up curling, finding a new sport he not only enjoyed but was also good at; and played in different leagues. He designed the logo for one of his team’s jackets.
Alex was gifted and talented with many technical skills including welding, woodworking, automotive repair, metalworking, and computer maintenance. He could build or fix anything.
Alex and his good friend Brennan, created Forgelock, a website where they shared design tutorials on different projects and builds, including furniture, cosplay props, and more.
Alex was also inventive and artistic, having a strong eye for design. He could draw, paint, and create digital art, and his excellent sense of humour led him to draw and write his own comics. Alex loved music and attended concerts of his favourite bands but also liked listening to live music at any local spot. Alex played the guitar, his favourite instrument being the one gifted to him by his grandfather. He enjoyed playing various console and online video games, especially Mario Party with his sister, letting her win if he could.
Alex was extremely smart and intelligent. He always enjoyed learning more about the world, including science and history and was always trying to figure out and make sense of how things worked. He always strove to continue his professional training and development.
Interested in cryptozoology, he was able to visit Loch Ness in Scotland in March 2024, to look for Nessie. A dream he had since he was a child.
Alex was all about giving to others and showing people how much he cared about them. He always had the funniest jokes, made the most out of every moment and loved animals, especially his dogs, Kia, Max, and Lucy. Alex is a special soul that was creative, hilarious, and kind.
Alex is survived by his father Jack Forrest (Linda), mother Shawn Palmer, both of Calgary; sister Samantha Palmer-Forrest (Curtis McNeill) of Canmore, as well as aunts, cousins, and friends.
Alex was predeceased by his grandparents, Allan and Helen Forrest and Doug and Margo Palmer.
We will miss him and hold tight to all the memories of this amazing son, brother, and friend who made our lives and the world a better place.
A Service will be held at a later date to remember and celebrate the life of Alex Forrest.
