Obituary of Edward Walter Kosowan
February 1, 1937 - Near Meath Park, Saskatchewan
August 27, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta
Edward Kosowan, beloved husband of Johanna Kosowan (nee Uhlman) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the age of 87 years.
Born the youngest of eleven children on a farm northeast of Prince Albert, SK, Ed moved to Calgary, AB, in his early 20s where he soon met his wife Johanna who had recently emigrated from Vienna, Austria. They married on July 1, 1968, and had one son in the late summer of 1969.
Soon after marrying Johanna, Ed resumed his studies at the University of Calgary where he obtained a degree with honours in Political Science. Upon graduating, Edward became an industrial arts teacher at Mount Royal Junior High. Over the next 30 years, he taught at Sir John Franklin and Sir John A. MacDonald, providing a positive influence, key skills, and guidance to so many young lives.
In addition to becoming a proficient craftsman, Ed was a talented painter and graphic artist. He also loved music, baseball, politics, and nature. As a deeply committed Christian and member of the Church of God Seventh Day, Ed led by example and embodied the principles and values of his faith––without fault and without wavering. He walked the path of righteousness, with a moral compass that never strayed from True North.
Besides his loving wife, Ed is survived by his son Grant, his grandson Cole, and his granddaughter Jordan, along with dozens of nieces, nephews, and cousins across North America. Ed was predeceased by his six brothers, Nick, Jim, Bill, John, Mike, and David; and his four sisters, Sophie, Rose, Verna, and Katherine.
Edward was a respected husband, father, grandpa, teacher, mentor, coach and leader. He will be missed.
