Obituary of Amos Olalere Kehinde

April 3, 1964 – Oluponna, Nigeria

August 28, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Amos Olalere “Ola” Kehinde of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the age of 60 years.

He was born in   Oluponna, Osun State, Nigeria, on April 3, 1964, the firstborn of Pa. Phillip Kehinde and Mrs. Odunola Kehinde. Ola was an accomplished engineer, a community organizer, and an ordained pastor with a passion for Hispanic Ministry.

Ola attended Baptist Day Primary School, Oriapata, Oluponna, Osun State, Nigeria, from 1970 to 1976. He had his secondary school education at Iwo Grammar School, Osun State, Nigeria from 1977 to 1982, and studied Mechanical Engineering at the Obafemi Awolowo University from 1983 to 1988.

Ola was an exceptionally gifted student and was the overall best student in his Secondary School class. He was a straight-A student in university and bagged a First Class Mechanical Engineering degree.

Following his university education, he was deployed to Sokoto State, Nigeria, from 1988 to 1989 for his National Youth Service Corps. Ola had a brief stint with Schlumberger where he had his first experience outside the shores of Nigeria but resigned his employment within a few months because he was missing home.

In 1990, he was in Warri with a private oil company he often referred to as a “one-man business”. Following multiple and highly competitive oral and written assessments, he gained employment with Chevron Nigeria Limited where he was granted employer-sponsored postgraduate education at Stanford University, California, USA, for a Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering.

Ola had multiple postings to the United States while he was with Chevron Nigeria Limited, and his last overseas posting was to Venezuela where he stayed for four years as an expatriate petroleum engineer. As a brilliant soul who poured himself into everything he did, he became a fluent Spanish speaker and worked with Winners Ministry to establish the Winner’s Chapel in Venezuela. After retiring from Chevron, he moved to Canada in 2015 and worked briefly with Sunoco Oil, and was in partnership with an Oil and Gas company for a short period of time.

As an ordained Pastor and Spanish speaker, Ola had missionary trips to several South American countries to spread the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. He spent the last five months of his life in Maryland, USA, to grow a Hispanic wing of Living Faith Ministry before he went to be with Our Lord on August 28, 2024.

Ola was a loving husband and father who used his resources and connections to attract developments to his hometown of Oluponna and his alma mater, Iwo Grammar School. For his tireless service to Oluponna, His Royal Highness, Oba Rafiu Oyekanmi Mosobalaje Bamigboye II, Ilufemiloye, often called him Asiwaju of Oluponna, a chieftaincy recognition that would not happen as he is resting with the Lord.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Bolaji Kehinde, and his children, Tosin Kehinde, Yinka Kehinde, Tobi Kehinde, Folu Kehinde, Tola Esan, Bimpe Esan, and Banjo Esan. Ola will be mourned by a large extended family, sisters, Bisi Kolawole and Bunmi Ojo, brother, Oludare Michael Kehinde, stepbrothers, Akinkunmi Kehinde, Busayo James Kehinde and Abiodun Isaiah Kehinde; nephews, Joshua Kehinde, David Kehinde, Olatide Kehinde, Brain Kolawole, Richman Kolawole, Ayomide Ojo and Mayowa Ojo; sisters-in-law, Bamidele Kehinde and Oyinye Kehinde; brothers-in-law, Stephen Kolawole and Michael Ojo; and his cousins, Moses Akin Akinniye, Janet Olawoyin, Stephen Akinniyi, Esther Olapeju Akinniyi, John Akinniyi, Oluwakemi Adelakun, Olubunmi Ekanem, Iyabo Akinniyi, Kafilatu Kareem, Mukaila Kareem, Janet Ogbenege, Akeem Olaleru, Kazeem Yisau, and Rashidat Ajala.

Ola was predeceased by his parents, Pa. Phillip Kehinde and Mrs. Odunola Kehinde, and by his brother, Sunday Kehinde.

Ola will be immensely missed and may he continue to rest at the feet of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
