Obituary of Mary Dukquits

March 26, 1924 – Blumenhof, Saskatchewan

September 1, 2024 – Airdrie, Alberta

Maria “Mary” Dukquits, beloved wife of the late David Dukquits, of Airdrie, AB, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at the age of 100 years.

Mary was born in Blumenhof, SK, on March 26, 1924. After the death of her mother, Mary moved to Gladstone, MB, in 1945 with her dad and five brothers and soon married Dave in 1947. They left their farm and ended up in various locations, settling mainly in Kelowna, BC, with Dave passing in 2009.  She then moved with her daughter to Airdrie in 2020 and resided at Airdrie Community Care. 

Mary is survived by her son Charles (Marge), daughter Vivian (Scott), three grandchildren, Laurie, Dan and Ken; and five great-grandchildren, Carter, Ethan, Rylan, Emma and Vera. She was predeceased by her siblings, Anna, Abram, Katharina, Jacob, Helen, Cornelius, Isaak and Dietrich.

Mom said leaving the farm was the happiest day of her life. With virtually nothing but a 1938 Dodge, tiny trailer with their possessions, her kids, and the family dog Poochie, they headed for BC. Settling in Trail, mom soon got a job as a Care Aide at Trail Hospital, eventually receiving her LPN’s certificate, which ended up being her career path for many years. They relocated several times, seeking opportunity until eventually retiring in Kelowna. Besides remodelling houses, mom and dad’s primary hobby was travelling in various recreational vehicles around the U.S.A and Canada; mainly wintering in Yuma, Arizona. She recently celebrated her 100^th birthday and received a certificate of recognition for the event from King Charles.
