Marcel Steiert

Obituary of Marcel John Steiert

February 17, 1960 – September 2, 2024

Marcel Steiert, who lived near Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 2, 2024, at the age of 64 years.

Born into a large and loving family, Marcel was the eleventh child of Margaret and Rudy Steiert. In December 1960, the family moved from their farm near Sibbald, AB, to Conrich, AB, where Marcel grew up. His three younger sisters were born in the following years, and Marcel took great pride in looking out for them.

His childhood was filled with adventures, from tubing and horseback riding to flattening pennies on the train tracks. He shared many joyful moments with his sisters, teaching them to play marbles and camping under the wide Alberta skies.

A natural athlete, Marcel excelled in school, earning the title of “Athlete of the Year.” His passion for sports was only rivaled by his love for mechanics, as he thrived in shop classes and developed a deep appreciation for cars. These early interests were a reflection of his hands-on, curious spirit, which would carry him throughout life.

Marcel was a man of many admirable qualities—passionate, conscientious, confident, independent, and kind. He was a risk-taker and fun-seeker, with a vibrant personality that made him a great friend to many. Marcel loved to laugh, dance, and live life to the fullest. His bond with his brothers was strong, whether they were working on projects together, snowmobiling, or simply enjoying each other’s company. Marcel also shared a particularly close relationship with his mother, Margaret. They took care of one another in profound and meaningful ways.

Throughout his life, Marcel accomplished much, but he was especially proud of his achievements in woodworking, renovations, and construction. He was an outstanding cabinet maker, creatively self-taught, and always eager to learn new skills. His contributions to his family’s businesses, assisting Loretta in her ventures and supporting Steven in store renovations, were a testament to his generosity and work ethic. Marcel also helped his father, Rudy, with their Chianina cattle, further deepening his connection to the land and his calling to the farm.

Marcel’s smile, described as rare and beautiful, will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. It was in those moments, when he allowed his inner self to shine through, that his true spirit was most visible.

He is survived by his brothers, Dennis (Shirley), Leonard (Andrea), and Steven (Nina); his sisters, Judy (Paul), Linda, Deanna (Glenn), Theresa, Kathleen (Jim), Rita (Dale), Rosemary (Rob), and Loretta; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Marcel was predeceased by his parents, Margaret Ross and Rudy Steiert, and his brothers, Morris and Ernie.
