Obituary of Damon Geordie Idle

April 21, 1994 – Campbell River, British Columbia

September 3, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Damon Geordie Idle of Calgary, AB, tragically passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at the age of 30 years.

Damon is survived by his dearly loved new wife, Iman, his parents, Geordie and Yvette; brothers, Cody and Ethan (Amanda); stepmother Julie, and sister Sophie, nieces, Lily and Aurora; grandmothers, Bonnie Rennie and Doris Siegmann; aunts, Jaana and Monika (Franco); and cousins, Paula and her son Grant, Nico (Vicki), and Samantha (Andy). He is also survived by his great-uncle Detlev and cousins, Christopher and Denise (Germany). Damon was predeceased by his grandfathers, Karl Siegmann and Donald Idle.

Damon was born on April 21, 1994, in Campbell River, BC, and spent the first ten years of his life growing up in Port Alice, a small pulp town where hockey was a major part of life. Damon began skating at the age of four and played league hockey for the Tri-Port area. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and exploring the mountains with his friends, “The 3-D’s” (Damon, Dixon, and Dallas) and his friend Stewart. He was thrilled when his sister Sophie was born, and they formed a special bond, even though he soon moved with his mother and two brothers to Calgary, where he continued playing hockey for the Bow Valley Hockey Association until his junior years. Damon attended Don Bosco School and graduated from Bishop Grandin High School. After high school, Damon attended SAIT, studying aircraft mechanics and pipefitting.

Damon had a very loving nature, and everyone who met him thought he was a great guy with a kind soul. He loved to sing (his friends and family called him Tom Petty), adored animals, and was a gentle person. When Damon met his future wife Iman, his poetic side emerged, and he wrote many poems for his beloved.

The world is a much emptier place without Damon, and he will be greatly missed.

The family wishes to thank all the first responders for their service.
