Condolences
I worked in the technical repair department at Global Calgary. Rick was a frequent visitor, but not in a bad way of always needing a repair. He would come by to just chat or visit with the team. Always had a story to tell. He would also show off his latest purchase or small gadget he would buy on his own to help with how he could provide better coverage of a news event. Many fond memories of Rick, he will be missed. Condolences to the family.
Rick was a year ahead of me at SAIT in the CTSR (Cinema, Television, Stage and Radio) program. First and second years hung out together - we enjoyed a lot of fun times. Later in the 70's, 80's and 90's Rick and I worked many stories together at 2 & 7 (Global)- he was also one of my camera guys on all those Stampede rodeo and chucks highlight shows. Always enjoyed our conversations and reminiscing, he is gone far too soon. Condolences to the family!!
Rick Copley was a one-of-a-kind cameraman with a keen sense of humour and a sharp wit. He was fun to work with and always had a lot to say. Some of my favourite shoots at 2 and 7 (later Global Calgary) were with this unique, fun-loving individual and my heart goes out to his close friends and family. We will miss him.
I was lucky to learn from Rick and then have him as a shooter when I was on the desk. I truly think he enjoyed every day that he had a camera in his hand especially if there was a horse involved. His impact on the industry was tremendous and hopefully he is resting and enjoying a view of the mountains and high pastures. RIP Rick. Condolences to the family. Bob Sumner
Rick was a very talented shooter with great intuition. We had many shoots together and he was a pleasure to work with. Also generous of spirit and above all kind. A true gentleman. So many memories and conversations over the years. So sad he is gone too soon.
Met Rick at SAIT where he was doing a hang gliding film. Worked with him at CFAC TV. He was always friendly and loved meeting people. Will be missed.
Rick and I met at the counter at Brennan Auto Supply in September 1966 over our love of all things automotive. I was a broadcasting student at Mount Royal College and that may have prompted Rick to pursue a career in the field. My sincere condolences to his family and colleagues.

The last goodbye is the hardest to say.
So Rick, saddle up old Cafe.
And on that trail, I will see you again someday.
Rest in Peace Cowboy!
Ricky and I worked together 40 years at CFAC/Global TV. Great News shooter and an authentic generous human being. Then there was the time the station sent us on a big assignment to Las Vegas to report on 4 Calgarians killed by bank robbers. We ended up with an undercover story on prostitution in Sin City. Richard will be telling that story this week up in heaven. Farewell my friend. Rest in Peace.
We will always remember Rick for his smiling face and love for working in the media. Rest easy Rick and we hope your are riding happy trails. Condolences to his family and friends.

Rick and I crossed paths back in the days of 2&7. While we seldom worked directly together, we were friendly colleagues, and our hallway meetings were always the best. Uniquely insightful, cleverly caustic and very, very funny, Rick made every day a little brighter. Our deepest condolences to your family. We’ll miss you, Rick.

Rest in peace Ricky....our visits at the mall I hold in my heart....
My deepest condolences. I worked with Rick for almost my entire career at Global and he lived just two blocks from my wife and I so we saw him almost every day. He was a funny and kind person and I will miss seeing him give a big wave as he walked past my house; usually stopping to tell me some groaner of a joke. Good guy that Rick.
Rick always had a story to tell no matter the topic. After he left Global he worked freelance and it never mattered what the shift was or what the assignment was, he was eager and willing every time I called. I always hoped I would have he’s enthusiasm when I got to be his age.
Stay steady and in focus Ricky where every your journey takes you.
Rick, my bestest and most loyal friend. I still remember meeting you at Brennan Auto Supply when you were working there for your Dad. We had many pleasurable and exciting moments with you helping me build and race cars.
Then came the helicopter. My wife got really mad with you for showing me the article about a new turbine retrofit for the helicopter. You helped me lots with that conversion and then came with me on our memorable trip to the EAA Fly-In at Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
I went with you on a few of your infamous “mall walks”. I am sure all the girls in the many stores at Market Mall are going to miss you and your propositions to “date” – all in the spirit of merriment, of course. They and I will miss you.
My condolences. Rick and I worked together at Global TV. We had a lot of fun, especially on crazy road trips. Lots stories and laughs. RIP Rick
Sending heartfelt condolences to Rick’s family. We rambled around on many ‘shoots’ together and it was always fun to be with him. A talented shooter and good guy. RIP.
It was always a pleasure to Rick as my photog. Peanut butter cup.
It was a pleasure to have worked with you at 2&7. My sincere condolences to the family. RIP
Rick, you have shared so many memories with our family and we loved having you in our lives. We will always remember you fondly and I still think of you every time I go to Market Mall. RIP, Ric. You will be missed and stay in my heart.
It was a pleasure and honour to have worked with Rick. My condolences to his family and friends.
