Condolences
Tom and family it is with great sadness to hear of Marina's passing. Tom, you being a few years older than me, were an idol as I grew up next door on !9th Ave. Your achievements in Boy Scouts stimulated me to do the same. As my sister Mary pointed out your library of WW11 books had a big influence on me as a teenager being interested in history and travel.
And then came Marina on the scene. What a joyful personality and the way she adopted us Taylor kids next door will always be a highlight of our family. When you got married you moved into the upstairs apartment of your parents. Soon you had a couple of daughters and I spent many an evening baby sitting and reading your books. By then I was in high school.
As time will have it we all moved on to careers and different locations but the memories will last forever. I'm now 85 but those years growing up next door to the Stevens are memories that will be cherished forever. I wish you all the best my friend.
My sincere condolances to you Tom and all your family. Marina, as I always knew her, is etched in my memory from when I was a little girl living next door to "Mr. & Mrs. Stevens in Calgary on 19th Avenue. She was always so friendly and always her beautiful smile.
Then around the late 1990's our paths crossed again as you were now living in Red Deer where my home is. She came into my little store looking for me regarding UNICEF and when she told me her name and I confirmed who she was we were both gobsmacked. It had to have been 50 years since our paths had crossed.
As it turned out my brother Jim (Seattle) and Tom (Cochrane) and wives were in town and we had a lovely supper together. Marina brought pictures from your wedding Tom of my mom and me. It was a special evening of reminiscing especially for Jim, as Tom you inspired him in his love of history especially military history.
I will let my brothers know of this sad news. I will think of you often.
