Obituary of Ruby May Shephard

September 21, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta
Ruby May Shephard of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the age of 94 years.
Ruby was born in Toronto, ON, on September 11, 1930, and moved to Calgary, AB, in 1975.
She accomplished much throughout her life and was particularly proud of serving in the mission field with Canadian Baptist Missions in Nairobi, Kenya and graduating from university with her husband, James, whom she married in 1952.
Ruby enjoyed studying the Bible and led Bible studies throughout her life. She graduated from the University of Calgary with a degree in Religious Studies in 1990. Ruby was an accomplished oil painter and gave art lessons to anyone who was interested.
Ruby’s most memorable vacation was when she went on a month-long safari in Kenya with James and her son, Bill.
Ruby’s favourite saying was, “Cherish health, seek truth, know God, serve others and thus with His help become the person God would have you be.”
She will be most remembered for her love, compassion, caring spirit, generosity and her gift of hospitality.
Ruby is survived by her son Bill Shephard (Charlene) of Kelowna, BC, and her daughter Beverley Harris (Wayne) of Calgary, AB, her grandson James Harris (Vickie) of Calgary, AB, her granddaughter Daralynne Harris of Denver, Colorado, her great-grandchildren, Daralynne, Anna, and Mattie Harris of Calgary, AB; and her sister Joannie Hall (George) of Whitby, ON. Ruby was predeceased by her husband James Shephard.
A Memorial Service will be held at Westview Baptist Church (1313 Ranchlands Way NW, Calgary, AB), on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Church Hall.
