Obituary of Wendy Marie Trapp
October 13, 1953 – Calgary, Alberta
September 28, 2024 – Blackfalds, Alberta
Wendy Trapp of Blackfalds, AB, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the age of 70 years.
Wendy was born in Calgary, AB, on October 13, 1953, to Starks and Marg Chudleigh. She grew up on the family farm in Bindloss, AB, until she moved to Medicine Hat, AB, for her high school years. As a girl, Wendy had a great love for animals and always enjoyed being around horses, dogs, and the 3-legged farm cat!
That caring nature was extended to all family and friends throughout the years. Wendy married Norm Trapp in Brooks, AB, on June 12, 1976. They had three children, David Louis Trapp in 1977, Kyla Margaret Trapp in 1978, and Heather Ruth Trapp in 1981. They resided in Brooks until 1980 and then moved to Calgary where they raised their family. Wendy and Norm tragically lost their young son David in 1979, and she thought about and spoke of him often.
Wendy and Norm loved to camp and fish with their kids when they were young, spending lots of time in the Brooks area on the weekends, and an annual trip to Spruce Grove Campground in the summer.
Wendy had a passion for both animals and people. She had such a huge heart and was a refuge for so many people who needed it. So many people called her mom, and she was so proud of all “her kids.”
In her later years, Wendy resided in Olds, AB, and then in Blackfalds, AB, where she married and resided with her second husband Terry Wynder. She loved spending time with and was fiercely proud of, her grown children and especially her grandkids, Cheyenne, Ruthie, James, Jayden, and Anna. They were the light of her life, and she so loved hearing about her grown grandkids' lives and ambitions and laughing at 4-year-old Anna’s latest stories and antics. She visited often, and those times were a highlight of her life.
We have many good memories of her visits in the last two years, the best being her 70th birthday party, attended by her siblings, kids, and grandkids. In 2016, Wendy was diagnosed with throat cancer and went through radiation and chemo treatments. This took a huge toll on her health and lifestyle, but she managed to persevere as she always managed to do.
She will be most remembered for her kind heart, her love of people, and her willingness to help those in need.
Besides her husband Terry, Wendy is survived by her two daughters, Kyla Cranston of Olds, AB, and Heather Trapp (Sebastian Gruendig) of Calgary, AB; her five grandchildren, Cheyenne Cranston (Erin) of Calgary, AB, Ruthie Cranston, of Ottawa, ON, James Cranston of Calgary, AB, Jayden Trapp of Calgary, AB, and Anna Gruendig of Calgary, AB. Wendy is also survived by her two brothers and sister, Vicki Hall of Brooks, AB, Cliff Chudleigh (Nancy) of Cochrane, AB, and Kent Chudleigh (Kathy) of Brooks, AB; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Wendy was predeceased by her son David, her parents, Margaret and Starks Chudleigh, her brother Warren Chudleigh, and her brother-in-law Terry Hall.
