Condolences, Pat, you've lost a good man. I got to know Tom through my parents (my dad was also a professor at the U of C). I remember the many dinners at our house (Balloon Dinners - Pat, you will remember these) with lively discussions about all topics.

As his obituary shows, he was an accomplished man with many academic achievements over the years. But he was also a very human man - full of laughter and good cheer - a pleasure to be around.

Pat, it's the start of a new chapter for you, but you can take solace in the fact that Tom had such a successful, full life (98 years!),
