Obituary of Donald Frank Sanders

November 6, 1925 – Chamberlain, Saskatchewan

October 2, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

 

Donald “Don” Sanders of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at the age of 98 years.

 

Don was born in Chamberlain, SK on November 6, 1925. He joined the Armed forces and was stationed in Moose Jaw, SK. After, in his early twenties, he moved to Calgary where he met the love of his life, Gladys Elizabeth Sanders (nee Dodge) and they were married on April 29, 1950.

 

He was a printer by trade and a member of the Printers Union. Midlife he made a career change to become a member of the CBE Custodial Staff.

 

Don accomplished much throughout his life and was particularly proud of his family. Don was an enthusiastic outdoorsman who enjoyed, hunting, fishing, camping, and was an avid gardener and he enjoyed reading.

 

Don’s most memorable vacation was when he travelled on a bus tour to Alaska and his experiences on the island of Maui.

 

He will be most remembered for his dry sense of wit. Don was very amiable, lending an ear to those who needed.

 

Don is survived by his four sons and one daughter-in-law, Keith (Barb), Ken, Brian, and Colin; grandchildren, Scott (Gracie) and Aaron (Katlynn); great-grandchildren, Taylor (Ryan), Dylan, Angel, Riley, Jayden, Lexia, and King; and great-great-grandchild Lyla. Don was very blessed to be able to greet and hold Lyla before his passing. Don is also survived by his sister Beverly, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

 

He was predeceased by his wife Gladys, siblings, Arthur, Marjorie, Jean, William, Shirley, and Kenneth.

In honouring Don’s wishes, our family will be having a private celebration of life.
