Obituary of Richard Lynch King

November 7, 1936 - Georgetown, Guyana

October 2, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Richard King, beloved husband of Simone King, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2024, at the age of 87 years, surrounded by his loving family in Calgary, AB.

Born and raised in Georgetown, Guyana, Richard attended St. Stanislaus College where he formed lasting bonds. It was in Georgetown where Richard met the love of his life, Simone. He began his career at the Royal Bank of Canada in Georgetown before embarking on a new chapter in London, England, where he married Simone. Shortly after the arrival of their son Shaun, the young family immigrated to Canada. Richard transitioned into a successful career in pharmaceutical sales, while also exploring his entrepreneurial interests with “Bob's Burgers”. He eventually retired from Bayer's Pharmaceuticals, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and mentorship.

Richard was athletic and played rugby for Team Guyana and enjoyed cricket, football, and tennis. Later in life, his passion for sports blossomed into a love for hockey, favouring his Calgary Flames slightly above his second favourite, the Edmonton Oilers. Above all, Richard cherished his time with family, especially his seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, who brought him immense joy and pride.

Richard was a devoted husband, father, and friend. His wisdom, quick wit, and calm demeanour made him a hero in Simone's eyes and a remarkable role model for his three sons, Shaun (Karen), Steve (Isa), and Simon (Jacqueline). He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, where he exemplified his commitment to faith, family, and community service. As a loyal and generous friend, Richard was always ready to lend a helping hand.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (404 Northmount Place NW, Calgary, AB (Corner of 4th Street & Northmount Drive NW)) on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery (3219 - 4th Street NW, Calgary, AB). Reception to follow at Corpus Christi Hall (5931-4th Street NW, Calgary, AB (Corner of Thorndale Road & 4th Street NW)) to celebrate Richard’s life.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Rosedale Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion during Richard's final days. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made in Richard’s memory directly to Rosedale Hospice at www.hospicecalgary.ca/support/donations/.
