Obituary of Maria Isabella Tallerico

April 3, 1937 – Castelsilano, Italy

October 6, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Maria Isabella Tallerico (nee Brisinda) of Calgary, AB, beloved wife, devoted mother, and loving Nonna, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at the age of 87.

Maria was born on April 3, 1937, in Castelsilano, Italy. It was there that she was raised, grew up, and met the love of her life, Giuseppe (Joe), whom she married on February 7, 1960.

In the beginning, Maria raised their family on her own while Giuseppe worked in Switzerland and Austria to save money to move the family to Canada. On December 29, 1966, Maria, Giuseppe, and their family moved to Calgary, AB.

Maria worked hard and made many sacrifices to build a life in Canada. She raised her kids during the day and worked in the evenings. Still, she always made her house a home for others, welcoming many relatives when they first moved to Canada, watching her many nieces and nephews, and hosting the neighbourhood children after school. Maria loved to look after her grandchildren, feeding them Nutella and ice cream behind their parents’ backs.

Maria was a master in the kitchen, known for both her cooking and her baking. Her lasagna, fresh pasta, and meatballs were a staple at all family gatherings, and her cookies were always complimented for being the best.

Thank you very much to the staff in Unit 57 at Rockyview General Hospital for their care of Maria.

Maria will be remembered by her children, Franca (Greg), Gabe (Trudi), Lou, and Rosa (Etchelle); her six grandchildren, Joel (Samantha), Brandon, Devon, Billy, Valentina, and Marissa; her sister Teresa Aiello, her sister-in-law Cristina Brisinda, and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and family in Italy and California.

Maria was predeceased by her beloved husband Giuseppe; parents, Luigi and Rosina; and her siblings, Maria Luisa, Francesco, and Vincenzina.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Community (800 - 85th Street SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow at St. Michael's Gathering Area. Interment Service to follow at Queen's Park Mausoleum (3219 - 4th Street NW, Calgary, AB).

Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mrs. Tallerico’s service streamed live (see link below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
