Obituary of Giovanni Mosca

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Mosca on October 8, 2024. He passed away suddenly at his residence at the age of 78. John was born in San Giovanni in Fiore, Italy, and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1954. John had a passion for life, and that was infectious to all who knew him.

John began a long and successful career with Borger Construction, where he worked for 45-plus years. In his free time, John enjoyed building projects in his garage and was always up for a good dance, as music was one of his greatest joys in life. He also loved spending time with his common-law spouse, Jo-Ann Rushton, whom he cherished deeply.

John was the loving father to Frank and Terry Mosca, and son-in-law Garnet Jones. He was also the very proud grandfather to Jake Mosca and Eli Jones. John will be greatly missed by his brother Pat Mosca, sister Rose Martel, and sister-in-law Jeanne Mosca, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and his sweet dog Lily.

John was predeceased by his spouse of 37 years, Hazel Mosca, in 2004, his parents Francesco and Teresa Mosca. He was also predeceased by his brother Harvey Mosca and wife June, as well as sisters Maria Laratta and husband Battista, and Caterina Laratta and husband Domenic.

John will be most remembered for his love for life and his kind and generous spirit. He will also be remembered for his love of Johnny Cash. John will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all those who offered support and condolences during this difficult time.

A Celebration of John's Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB) on Monday, October 21, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
