It was with a profound sense of sadness that I heard of the passing of Ryer. He was an energetic and enthusiastic member of my Rugby team. I will never forget the ear to ear smile he had when he scored his first try. He was a hard worker who consistently gave his all at every practice and was eager to learn and become a better player. After he broke his collar bone he continued to be involved with the team, helping with equipment during practice, running lines during games and lending his positive attitude to coaches and players. His loss has been deeply felt among his team mates, peers and coaches.

Erik I can't even begin to understand what this must feel like. Having children also, I can only imagine the heart break of losing a child so young and full of life. My heart goes out to you, your family and all those affected by this tragedy. I hope that you find solace in those that are close to you and ask that you let God hold your hand through this grieving process.

Psalm 34:18-20 says that even if you face many troubles, God will deliver you from them all. The pain of losing a child can be unbearable and the following grief can make it difficult to find joy. God promises never to leave us alone in our suffering, and He stands ready to bear our burdens.

Erik, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. The world was better for having someone like him. I am sending love and my deepest condolences to you and your family - I hope that everyone who knew him or even those who have read this beautiful tribute to him can try to share a little of Ryer with the rest of the world through showing the acts of kindness he offered to all of God’s creatures large and small throughout his life. I never had the privilege of meeting Ryer but I’ve known his Dad since he & my son Jason were best buddies in elementary school. My heartfelt condolences go out to you, Erik and the rest of Ryers family & friends. He sounds like an awesome young man who left a significant mark in his young life and will be fondly remembered by many.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ryer only once but once is all it took to see that he was a sweet, caring soul.
