Obituary of Lois Elizabeth Richards

October 17, 1938 – Mundleville, New Brunswick

October 10, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Lois Elizabeth Richards passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, October 10, 2024. She was born in Mundleville, NB, on October 17, 1938, to parents Allison and Mary Mundle. Lois was the last of the Mundle girls; her sisters, Ruth, Alice, Helen, and Elaine, all predeceased her.

Lois moved out West in 1972, hoping for a fresh start in raising her two girls alone. She worked for many years at the Calgary Brewery, and then Molson in the accounting department. For a time, she held down two jobs just to make ends meet. Living in Bowness and commuting to the brewery was an hour-long bus ride each way. Lois often found herself alone on the bus at the end of the route, having fallen asleep and missed her stop.

After many years of hard work and successfully raising her daughters, Lois could then enjoy some travelling. She visited England, Scotland, Wales, and made excursions into the United States finally settling on Mesa, Arizona, as a winter retreat. She loved the community and her many friends there. The time spent travelling was some of the best years for her.

Lois was a talented artist, bread baker, and cook. She enjoyed a glass of wine (or a rum and seven), was lucky at the slot machines (just enough to not lose any money), loved a good meal, loved visiting and would often engage total strangers in conversation, loved music, her cats, camping and exploring around Alberta, especially Kananaskis and the Sundre area.

Most of all Lois loved her family and spending time with them. Holly and Brad, Cindy and Wayne, grandkids, Kacie (Bruce), Brian (Amanda), Mark (Jennifer), Dylan (Liz), Breanna (Mackenzie); great-grandkids, Owen, Hailey, Owen and Nina, Rory, and Ignatius. They will all miss her. Mom never forgot her Eastern roots and will be remembered by many nieces and nephews from the Maritimes.

A huge thank you to Airdrie Care Community, where Mom received such excellent care for two years. We cannot adequately express our appreciation for the kindness of the second-floor staff, especially Susan and Ricardo,

Mom requested no service but did suggest taking a trip down memory lane and raising a glass for her.

We love you, Mom.
