Sebastiano Allocca

Obituary of Sebastiano Allocca

January 4, 1940 – Marigliano, Napoli, Italy

October 11, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

In loving memory of Sebastiano Allocca, who peacefully passed away at home on Friday, October 11, 2024, after a courageous seven-and-a-half-year battle with kidney disease. Born in Marigliano, Napoli, Italy on January 4, 1940, he immigrated to Canada in November 1981, where he built a loving home and a fulfilling life. Sebastiano was proud to serve for more than 27 years with the Calgary Catholic School District.

Sebastiano was known for his strong will, unwavering determination, and deep love for his family. His passion for gardening brought him tremendous joy and provided comfort throughout his journey. Sebastiano’s deep commitment to keeping his family connected was a top priority for him. He believed in fostering strong relationships and always made sure they remained close. Whenever things got a little out of hand, his favourite word was simply “Basta”, meaning enough.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Rosa Allocca (nee Vecchione), and their children, Maria (Mitch), Raffaele (Keegan), Assuntina-Susie (Andrew), Michela (Shafiq), and Tony (Katerina). He was a proud grandfather to his grandchildren, Rosanna (Ricky), Melissa (Chris), Venessa (Benz), Lucas, Julia (Steve), Tristan, Sabrina, Isaac, Zoe, and Arianna. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Milliana, Emilia, and Sienna. He will be deeply missed by his brothers and sisters, Vincenzo (Veneranda), Antonietta (Biagio), Teresa (Angelo), and Carlo (Filomena), and by numerous beloved nephews and nieces from Italy and Germany, as well as cherished friends.

Sebastiano is preceded in death by his parents, Raffaele Allocca, and Assunta DiPalma, brothers, Luigi Allocca (survived by wife, Rosa), Mario Allocca, and grandson Corvera Robert Woods, who welcomed him into the arms of the Lord.

In remembrance of Sebastiano, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated team at Sheldon Chumir peritoneal dialysis team, Foothills Medical Centre’s dialysis unit, palliative care, and Dr. Muruve, for their unwavering support and care.

Even as he faced his final journey, Sebastiano remained a fighter. In accordance with his wishes, a Celebration of Sebastiano’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB) on Monday, October 21, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. After the Celebration of Life, family and friends are warmly invited to join the family in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.

If family and friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Sebastiano’s memory may make donations to the Kidney Foundation. Your contributions will serve as a testament to his life, reflecting the additional years we were blessed to share with him and supporting others living with kidney disease. Donations can be made directly to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, 6007 – 1A Street S.W., Calgary, AB T2H 0G5. Telephone: (403) 255-6108, www.kidney.ca.
