Obituary of Margaret Patricia Keiran Cox

February 7, 1929 – Medicine Hat, Alberta

October 10, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of M. Patricia Cox (nee Scott), beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, aunt, cousin, and friend, who departed this life on Thursday, October 10, 2024. Patricia was 95 years old and leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories.

Born on February 7, 1929, in Medicine Hat, AB, Patricia was the daughter of William and Rosanna Scott. From an early age, she demonstrated a passion for Canadian history and literature, qualities that shaped her life and fueled her excitement for the world. In 2022, Patricia was awarded the Platinum Jubilee Medal of Queen Elizabeth II for her dedication to her community.

On May 21, 1955, Patricia married the first love of her life, Peter Cox, in Edmonton, AB. Together, they shared 58 beautiful years of love, partnership, and time spent with the people they loved most. Their bond was a testament to love and dedication.

Patricia was a wonderful mother who believed in her children wholeheartedly. She was also a devoted and loving grandparent. With her love for the arts and music, she encouraged her grandchildren to sing, dance, and enjoy the theatre.

While living in the Bonavista Village Residence, Patricia met Victoria Zubko, and they began a beautiful marriage—full of love and laughter. Victor and Patricia were great companions who found joy in the everyday and in loving one another.

Patricia was a source of strength, wisdom, and love for her friends and community. She enjoyed volunteering as a docent at the Glenbow Museum, always sharing her love for Canadian history with a kind heart and unwavering passion. She also volunteered with the Southern Alberta Pioneers for over twenty years, where she found a sense of community among fellow volunteers and their families.

Patricia is survived by her son Patrick (Laurie), her sister Doreen, her daughter-in-law Lesley, and her grandchildren, Mason, Jennifer (Reid), Lindsey, and Julia. She was predeceased by her daughter Pamela, her son Joseph (Lesley), her brothers, Ken and Don; her sister Rita, her brother-in-law Norm Devitt, and her husbands, Peter Cox and later Victor Zubko.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Dr SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
