Obituary of Gwendolyn Jean Smith

September 2, 1922 - October 17, 2024

 

Gwendolyn “Gwen” Smith (nee Simmons), beloved wife of the late John Gilbert Smith, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the age of 102.

 

She was an avid traveller, talented weaver and loved to play games. Bridge was her passion. Gwen particularly enjoyed a good book. She loved the places she lived and treasured the friendships she made.

 

Gwen’s Christian faith was always central to her life and was a member of the congregations of St. Martin’s and St. Peter’s Anglican churches.

 

Gwen is survived by her daughter Sandra, of Vancouver, BC, son Steve (Patricia), of Calgary, AB. She was affectionately known as “GG” by her grandchildren Michael (Robin), Peter (Tenley), Jennifer (Christopher), Alexander and James; along with eight great grandchildren, Taylor, Max, Luke, Tessa, Sophie, Chloe, Finley and Olivia.

 

Gwen was recently predeceased by her son-in-law Mike.

 

Memorial Services will be held at St. Martin's Anglican Church (1009 Prominence Way SW, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Church Hall. A private family Graveside Service will be held at Queen’s Park Cemetery at a late date.
