Vitalia Da Ponte

Obituary of Vitalia Maria Da Ponte

April 14, 1940 – Sao Miguel, Portugal

October 20, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Vitalia Da Ponte on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the age of 84 years. Vi was diagnosed with cancer in October 2022 and fought with unwavering strength and positivity. She will be deeply missed, and we are comforted knowing she is at peace.

Vi was the matriarch of her family, exhibiting unconditional love and strength. We all admired her independence and quiet resilience. During her lifetime she faced life’s challenges with grace, always providing a steady hand to guide her loved ones through difficult times. Her kindness and love were the foundation of the family’s unity, offering support and comfort to each generation. She was a woman who found peace in nature spending countless hours tending to her garden. She cherished her time with the Second Sixties Outdoor Club and loved their hikes in Kananaskis Country. She was always up for an adventure and loved travelling with various family members to Florida, Hawaii, Nova Scotia and Stuart Lake in Fort St. James, British Columbia.

Vi was born in Sao Miguel, Portugal in 1940. In 1964 Vi and Joseph immigrated their young family to Toronto, Canada where they spent sixteen years raising their three children. In 1980 they moved to Calgary, where they settled into their forever home, and watched their children pursue education and work opportunities while laying down roots and building their families.

Vi is survived by her three children, son Lee (Sandra), and daughters Raquel and Liz (Kurt). She was the very best “Vovó,” Grandma to Marie (Tyler) Eric (Jessie) Chantal (Kyle) Falon, Lukas (Jade) and Dietra. She adored her great-grandchildren, and they will miss her deeply, Grayson, Shaw, Tanner and Jaielle. Fond memories will continue to be shared between her sisters Margaret and Valerie, along with nieces, nephews and other extended family members. Vi was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Daponte, brother Lidio Cabral, and her parents, Cecilia and Jose Cabral.

We extend our love and appreciation to the staff at Dulcina Hospice for their compassionate care.

A Celebration of Vitalia’s Life will be held in the Spring of 2025.
