Obituary of Michael Karl Ponto
June 30, 1965 – Calgary, Alberta
October 19, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael Ponto on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the age of 59 years.
Besides his loving wife of nineteen years, Ellen Russell, Michael is survived by his mother Anne Ponto, daughter Nicole Giery (John), son Chris, granddaughter Callahan Giery, sisters, Eve Guspodaryk and Sylvia Balazs (Bill); as well as many other loving extended family members.
Mike was a true humanitarian, and multiple charities benefited from his kindness. On many occasions Mike would buy a meal for a homeless person and sit and talk with them.
His passion for football and basketball was well known to everyone and he could discuss statistics with the best of them.
He had a love for attending performing arts productions but most evenings you could find him sitting at home strumming on his guitar.
Mike enjoyed various outdoor activities and simply being outdoors which was evidenced by always having the best lawn on the block.
He was a history buff, loved to talk politics and had the mind of a lawyer.
Most of all he loved his family. To be loved by Mike was to be truly loved.
Memorial Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Monday, October 28, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
