Condolences
Mr. Hurley was such a great English teacher with such a positive attitude throughout his career - even for all of us hormonally offset teens. Not only through his great stories laced with sly Irish comic relief, but for all his true kindness as well. So much so, when asked about memorable teachers recently-- despite it being many decades since high school, he immediately came to mind followed by good contagious smiles.
I wish all his dear family and friends lots of love and support after his passing,
and also in sharing great memories of him too.

To the Hurley Family,
We were saddened to hear of the passing of Donal. Mary has fond memories living across from the Hurley family in Yorkton and I will always remember Mr. Hurley for his wit and charm when he and Grainne visited mom and dad. I know my parents thought the world of Donal and Grainne, my mom Jean having had the good fortune to work with Grainne at The Bay and my dad Rene with Donal at E.D. Feehan. In regards to your dad, Hurley boys, my father had the utmost respect for him as a professional and a friend. Mary and I treasure the memories we have of our interactions with all members of the Hurley family, and at this time, we wish you strength and peace. We hope our paths will cross sometime soon for a visit. Take care.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Donal’s’ passing …he was a good friend and we enjoyed many good visits together.
It was coincidental that my dad was born in the same small town in Ireland - we had a big laugh over that…..O Callaghans Mills….
I spoke to Donal shortly before he died, a short visit, but I was unaware his death was imminent.
I would like the family to know, Donal was a kind and gentle man, but he sure had the build of a great hurler.
May he rest in peace….
Gerry Moroney, Saskatoon
It was my good fortune to work with Donal at E.D. Feehan for many years. As well as working with him, I also faced him many times on a racquetball court, where his competitiveness beat me. He was also very interested that my wife and I have a home in Ennis, MT. He wanted to know if it was connected in any way to Ennis, Ireland. The last time I spent with Donal was in Saskatoon, where he joined Eileen Laverty and me for coffee. I brought along a copy of William Butler Yeats poem 'The Fisherman'. He was delighted to explain the image of 'gray Connemara cloth' to us. Donal will always have a place in my heart.
I Remember Mr. Hurley… at E.D. Feehan High School….he was an excellent English teacher and showed great patience with a sometimes ruckus student class…I always thought Mr. Hurley carried himself as the proper Irish gentleman …he will be missed and was a great inspiration to those of us in the Feehan community….God Bless and Best Regards to his Family….
Sincerely
Dallas Claypool
One of my fondest memories was at a Feehan staff party at a racquet club. Don was my opponent for racquet ball. He was amazing. During the game and between getting MANY balls bounced off my ample carcass I could hear his dulcet tone saying “ oh Feschuk move your ass”followed by “feschuk your such a fet boy” I struggled between trying to keep up and laughing my a** off. Not to mention those so so expressive eyebrows that came together in the middle of his forehead like like two confused and happy caterpillars - which made every statement or comment hilariously grave.
Few times in one’s life do one get the chance to meet someone of Don’s character. I was lucky to have done so. As a young teacher in 1986 Don was generous with his experience and advice. I consider him to be one of the mentors I had. He was and will always be one of a kind.
Mr. Hurley, you were simply the best teacher one could ask for. I remember 9th grade English with you as my home room teacher at Feehan. You made learning Shakespeare memorable with that Irish brogue and warm humour . You really cared for us, a lot of ragamuffins in your charge and took on the challenge to help us become good humans. Heaven has another angel.
Condolences to Sean, Brian, Eamon and family. I am sure you will miss your dad. He is a great man.

We were sorry to hear the news of Donal's death, peace to him, suaimhneas síoraí dó.
Our late mother Maureen, nee McGrath, was a cousin of Donal's and was very fond of him. He stayed with her and our father, Joe when they were living in London.
After he moved to Canada Mammy was always delighted to receive letters from him and he and Gráinne and the boys visited our home in Dublin many years ago.
Our sympathies to Sean, Brian and Eamon.
