Obituary of Elizabeth Lucille Purkiss

October 24, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with heavy hearts we announce Elizabeth Lucille ‘Bettylou’ Purkiss of Calgary, AB, passed away at the age of 94 years on Thursday, October 24, 2024.
Bettylou was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
She was born in Edmonton, AB, on July 3, 1930, to Gertrude and Albert Bakewell. She was the eldest of her siblings, Ken, Sid, Ray, David Bakewell, and Blanche Cochrane.
Bettylou married the love of her life, Bud Purkiss, on July 2, 1955. Together they built loving memories with their family, and in 2020 celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary! They loved to spend their time traveling, golfing, and summers at Alberta Beach, AB. Bettylou loved to bake around the holidays. She was an avid attendee on bridge nights, happy to host her friends. After Bud passed away, she spent time with her friends at United Active Living.
Bettylou is survived by her children, Kathy (Barry), Jim (Barb), Gayle (Doug), Jeff (Michelle), and Mike; fourteen grandchildren, Becca (Corey), Nicole (Cain), Rachel, Amanda (Mark), Jennifer, Jake (Eden), Jamie (Devin), Jeffrey (Sanela), Luke, Matthew, Juliette, Emma, Michael, and Elizabeth; and great-grandchildren, Brielle, Griffin, Lawson, Sullivyn, Halle, Brynn, Hudson, Abel, Archer, and Amelia. She was predeceased by her husband Bud in 2020.
She taught us to be kind and generous. Bettylou leaves a loving family legacy. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and loved her.
A Gathering will be held at the McInnis & Holloway Hospitality Centre (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.
