Condolences
Monty Berg ! I have a lot of funny stories with Dave ! Dave always liked to leave a tip! We always went to the same place for lunch in New Brunswick ! When we were done our meal and leaving I would slide his tip over by mine and the waitress would always service me better than Dave ! Until Frank Wright spilled the beans on me! Dave was pissed we all roared cause it had been going on for months! We were in the mountains of Quebec and were playing pool Dave said he never gave free lessens for he wanted to play for a quart of beer ! Well I lost about 10 in a row ! Said I had to go make some change and ordered 10 quarts of beer ! He was expecting me to give him cash! I said we were playing for beer! That was real funny ! Dave didn’t think so! I will miss you Dave ! RIP my Friend!
So many stories to tell, but one of the funniest would have to be when Dave, still wearing a cast from toe to crotch, would often elevate his leg to keep it from going to sleep. Such was the case one night in the Sahara Nights Club/Bar. Our cousin Dan Todd and I were putting anything and everything (mostly Halloween suckers) into the foot end of Dave’s cast. This drove Dave crazy because he couldn’t reach to remove them.
The best was yet to come….. with the foot end of his cast high on the back of a chair, Dan and I poured our beer into the cast and it immediately came out at his crotch, man was he pissed. All in all, he took it in stride. After all, if the cast were on the other foot, he’d have done the same.
You may be gone but the memories remain as clear and vivid as the day they happened. RIP brother
Alice and I were sorry to hear about Dave's death.
Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Jeanette and Dave's family. We had a long call with Howie reliving a lot of old memories. Dave and I go way back to '65 when I joined the Allied photo crew, with Roly Paulin and Wayne Martin and hit the road to Edmonton to meet Roger Currie's crew. Two '65 chevys going up hwy 16 with the pedal to the metal. We traveled across the country and back a couple times.. Then after the accident reconnected again eventually ending up with our own Sooter's franchise in New Brunswick. Many stories to tell but one I remember is him challenging all "jam-tarts" to a game of bumper pool at the old wikiwak club in Shediac. So long ol'bud

When we lived in Kindersley, Dave and Jeanette stayed with us when they came to take photos of the students in the schools. Gosh, this has to be about 30 years ago, if not more lol. We really enjoyed visiting with them. Always sorry to see them go back to Calgary. When Dave was about 7 years old, and I was 4, he asked Mom if he could go berry picking. We lived in our old house on Cornwall St. in Regina at that time. Of course I had to tag along lol. Anyway, we found a whole bunch of bushes in the area with Saskatoons on them, and Dave was sure he was going to fill his bucket. We were picking away, and of course eating too, and all of a sudden, he starts to scream. I mean really scream. He starts pushing his pants down, and running at the same time, he was heading for home as fast as he could go. I’m 4! What do I know? It was very strange to me, and I was laughing like a loon. I thought he looked so funny! Anyway, turns out he stepped onto an ant hill! They were crawling all over him, and biting. Mom heard him screaming and ran out to see what was wrong! His legs and everything to his waist was just crawling with these ants. Needless to say, we never went berry picking again! lol
Our deepest sympathy to all of the family. Uncle David and Jeanette came to live in Nanaimo for a period of time. We shared many meals and laughter. My kids didn't remember his name so he told them, "you can call me anything but don't call me late for lunch". From that day forward my kids called him "Uncle Late for Lunch"
