Obituary of Jan Bierman

June 26, 1927 – Meppel, Netherlands

October 30, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jan Bierman on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at the age of 97 years in Calgary, AB.

Jan was born in Meppel, Netherlands, on June 26, 1927, to Willem and Margje Bierman (nee Leertouwer). Jan immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands in 1954, at 27 years of age. He left his mother, father and nine siblings to follow the love of his life and future wife of fifty-years. They were married on October 1, 1955, and he became a member of the Alberda family who opened their hearts and homes so he could live in Canada. He remained forever thankful to his new family.

Jan was predeceased by his wife, Wilhelmina Bierman (nee Alberda) , in 2006 and his grandson, Ryan Schuster, who we recently lost in December 2023.

Jan is survived by his son William “Bill” Bierman (Kelly), and daughters, Barb Bierman and Margaret Schuster (Shane). He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Christine Cimolai (Mickey), Jessica Bierman, Jonathan Bierman (Ben Monkhouse), Mariann Bierman, Amanda Hoerle (Tommy Leong), Brad Hoerle, and Meagan Moller (Braun), as well as seven great-grandchildren, Elsie Cimolai, Edie Cimolai, Blake Leong, Brady Leong, Brennen Leong, Auna Moller, and Brooks Moller.

Forever in our hearts. Gone, but never forgotten—rest in peace, Dad/Opa.
