Obituary of Brent William Oliver
October 26, 1967 – Brandon, Manitoba
November 1, 2024 – Okotoks, Alberta
Brent passed away with grace after bravely facing his challenging journey with cancer. Although his life was short, he filled it with more than most.
He travelled to amazing places like South Africa, Belize, Portugal, and Costa Rica, but perhaps his favourite place was California. At home, his passions were cultivating his beautiful garden, cooking, and collecting vintage art glass that somehow managed to avoid the wagging tail of his giant dog, Carter.
Later in his life, Brent found a passion for bird-watching and capturing beautiful photos of them. His career found him as Executive Director of several agencies, but he was most proud of achieving his PhD in Social Work. He taught and mentored students at Mount Royal University, where, shortly before his cancer returned, he was appointed as the first Academic Director of Social Work. He was excited to jump into this role but, unfortunately, was unable to fulfill it.
Life is much more than travel, hobbies, and work. What mattered the most to Brent was sharing great times with his family, being super tight with friends, and seeing how he could make them laugh with his razor-sharp wit.
He will be remembered as the best partner in life for Kent, an “amazing” uncle to Olin, Ian, Andrew, and Amanda, a passionate and loving brother to his siblings Sherri-Lynn, Wynne, and Thane, and a loyal son to his mother Shirley Ann who passed away in 2019.
Brent was one of those impactful people we were lucky to have in our lives, and we will always keep him in our hearts.
